Where were you when you lost the o-ring?

I'm thinking the "long circular thing" might be the starter.  That would be where something might drop if'n he was taking the carb apart while it was still attached to the jug. (The jug is the upright long cylinder thingy as opposed to the starter which is the horizontal long circular thingy).

Ooooh!,.. that long circular thing...

To get something out from under the starter,... just get a stiff piece of paper, and slide it under one side... it will push it out the other side...
;)...

Im not just real sure that people who dont know what that long circular thing is should be taking things apart that have O-rings in them.,

It took me a while but I think I figured out what the "long circular thing" is - the starter. As far as the o-ring, I still don't have any idea which one he's talking about but I think I regained my iq points.

There's one common o-ring everybody looses sooner or later under the starter... is that enough of a clue yet?
