Title: What would cause this???
Post by JRLeathercraft on 03/27/13 at 10:36:38

So, the rear brakes had been soft and took it to the dealer.

The shop found this. Some how the bracket that holds the cable is way off - bent or something.

They suggest possible welding a new bracket in place?

Maybe someone can take a pix and show me how it is suppose to look?

Isn't the bracket supposed to be between those 2 nuts?

That is the way I see it.  You need to remove the arm from the rear brake, move the cable so that the bracket is between the two nuts and tighten them down, then re-install the rear arm to work with the cable when it is properly attched.  The adjustment is then made at the threaded portion of the cable that attaches to the brake arm at the hub.

No wonder your rear brake has been soft.....the cable outer sleeve is not attached to anything!

I was able to put the nuts in the bracket.

I called the service manager and we are going to have a talk.

Good for you JR keep them on their toes, one less person they took advantage of  >:(  or they are just truely clueless, which in that case you don't want them working on your bike regardless   ;D

Also I'm glad you didn't just take their "suggestion" (proffessional opinion didn't seem proper) and asked here before making your mind up on what action to take. It's deffinately better to know your own bike, to get comfortable diagnosing and repairing it. These things can actually make you a more confident rider and better prepared for when you get caught with your pants down on the road with a mechanical issue  ;)
