Title: Installed my 4" over forks today
Post by Greg on 03/23/13 at 14:29:34

I installed my new forks today. I bought them from Forking by Frank. The are 4" over stock. I only went for a quick spin but they feel good so far! Here are a couple of comparison photos.

Looks pretty good.

How much different does it handle from stock?

How much did they run you?

I just did a short ride so I don't have a great answer yet. I am hoping to get out during the week to put her through he!!. The short run at 30mph felt about the same. Now I added a 1" longer spacer tube thing on my factory forks to play with the preload. I don't remember well enough from before then to make a comparison. I used the stock spacer things with these forks. I do expect some different pressure requirements to turn at highway speed. I will update the post when I do that.

As far as cost, they were $300 delivered. He only does COD.

I forgot to mention, I have an '02 that came with buckhorn bars. I swapped in the new style bars and risers. This actually allowed me to keep my existing brake line. If I go back to the buckhorns or do the mini apes I keep considering, I will need a new brake line.

I also forgot to mention I purchased a set of lower fork things from a member here so I could just swap the finished product. I live in PA. My inspection sticker is on the forks I removed! I will go to the shop for a replacement. It's just funny because I thought I thought of everything before I began.  ::)

One last "I forgot to mention" thing. My kickstand is short now. I guess I ran into the same issue as those that install the Intruder shocks on the rear. I picked up a hockey puck but haven't decided if I am going to mount that or do something else. I would really love to find a longer stand but searching old threads here leads me to believe they don't exist.

I look forward to your report, on how it all turns out with your testing.  I like the look of it stretched out a little and hopefully that little bit will make it somewhat more stable on the super slab, but not take away much from the bikes ability in the twisties.

Looks nice Greg, 4" is enough for noticable change aesthetically. Looking forward to hearing how it feels after a few good rides   ;)

Hi there. Was wondering if you had the old forks you took off your bike? I'd like to buy them for a reasonable price if you do. Thanks.

Heather, I have the inner fork tubes available. If that is all that's bent on yours and you would like one or both, let me know.

If Heather doesn't want them, I might be interested in the fork tubes.

I haven't heard back from her yet. If she doesn't contact me by Monday they are yours for shipping costs.
