Title: versiagen cam chajn adjuster question?
Post by mustang on 03/22/13 at 21:24:02

i just took cover off and found adjuster out 16mm would you put in the  stock hole or 2nd hole i think 2nd hole would have a lot of extra tention on chain i dont mind to reopen in 3 thusand miles to move if chain will last longer.. what do you think..

Mine felt very snug at the second hole when I was at 23mm...
If you don't mind doing a repeat,... I'd wait and check at 3k more...
...(if it feels like too much,.. maybe it is)... (you're in no danger at 16mm)...
19mm plus... is where we've seen trouble start...
JMHO...

... on the other hand,... if yer' lazy like me...
you might squish it down in there now...
The only harm will be the extra pressure from the spring against the chain... and that's probably insignificant compared to the engine torque...

So,.. are you lazy,... or anal?...
Tough choice... :-?...
We can say... casual, or, meticulous... if that helps... ;D...

Yer makin' the right choice I think. I just put a verslavy in my bike with the original adjuster out to 16mm. Using the first hole the stop pin didn't have very far to go before it hit the end of the slot. Moved it to the second and buttoned it up. I don't think having the spring compressed almost all the way will make any difference. The chain is STEEL. It doesn't actually stretch. It wears where the pins and links are pushed together. Pushing on it a little harder with that spring isn't going to hurt a thing IMHO.

I looked at the torque spec list in my Clymers and it doesn't list that bolt. Lists a Tensioner "set bolt" and a "plate bolt'" but I don't think either of those is it. Maybe someone with the factory manual will chime in.

I just put a couple of drops of blue Loctite on mine and snugged it down with a 1/4" drive ratchet. It's a pretty small bolt. I wouldn't lean on it too hard. :)
