Title: New bib
Post by JRLeathercraft on 03/20/13 at 14:06:53

I just finished the bib for my yellow 96.

Some how I managed to mis caculated and made it too long, but I can resolve that (moreso than too short!).

I'd like to ask what is the value of something like this? If I were trying to sell them, I'm thinking the $50 to $75.00 range. Is that something you guys would pay or is that too much?

Jay

Chilhowee sells theirs for $85 plain. Studs, pockets, etc add to the price. I think you need to offer one without the pocket as well. Here is a link to their site: http://www.chilhowee.net/suzuki-tankbra/TB047.html How does yours attach? Could you include photos of the top and bottom attachment points?

To answer your question, I think you are in the right price range. Maybe. The Savage one is expensive because there is no supply. If you look at the offerings for the "popular" bikes from other vendors, most are in the $50-$60 range. Many are even less. Personally, I think to sell well you may need to be at the lower end of the price range you gave for one with a pocket and less for one without. But I'm a cheapskate when it comes to this type of stuff.

And I would offer a matching fender bib as well. When we go to solo seats, the fender is ugly and I think the fender bib and tank bib would need to match. While you're at it, a matching tool/fork bag would be awesome too!  ::)

If you order from Chilhowee, make sure to specify the pattern sent to them by Karl Norwood (that's me). I ordered one from them and it did not fit at all. They asked me to send them a pattern to correct the problem and they made a new one which fit perfectly. Their customer service was exemplary.

JC whitney sells some cheap.

I'm not sure of the quality of their leather, but I'm sure if you offered personalized bibs, in custom colors, you could do well.   ;)   8-)

I have the studded version of this on my Savage(was on the scoot when I bought it...I'm too dang cheap to buy it myself ::) ). For something from JCW it's very good quality. I've not seen any better in any of the shops around the Louisville Ky area for twice the cost! I have to say it really adds to the look of the scoot.

I would like to add that I had a custom leather back patch made by JR Leathercraft and I couldn't be happier with the quality. I would not hesitate to ask him again for any custom leather product.
