I'm currently doing the conversion to cast GS wheels and came across two questions not related to the switch but more for my own knowledge and a search did not yield answers.  

There is a copper colored film on the inside of the rotor where the shoulder of the bolt sits.....what is it and what purpose does it serve?

The threadlocker on these bolts was strong to say the least.  Is this a special compound for this application that Suzuki used and I should try to find or do you think I am safe with Loctite?  

The PO was the original and did not touch the brakes so both items were factory applied.

I will be posting the wheel swap when I'm finished in case I stumble on something that hasn't been covered yet.   As always, thanks for the comments/help.

The locktite used from the factory is whitish.

That maybe a rust preventative... either plating or just a smear of something.  Haven't really noticed it before.

Yes the threadlocker kind of looks like the pipe compound you would use to seal threads in plumbing applications.  Oh, the bike was produced in '96 if that has any bearing on anything.

Im guessing it's some kind of anti-seize compound. Mostly it's silver colored but I have seen gold/copper colored stuff. In the hole where the shoulder of the bolt sits would be the logical place for it.

Looks like the spray on copper gasket seal, I used 3 layers to build up my head gaskets. Maybe the bolt shank was a bit loose the last time it was changed and they used the copper combpound to beef it up and make it tight?

Anti seize makes sense. It is on all the bolts and they are really tight so I can see anti seize being there. Cool, mystery solved I guess.

In the top photo in the original post, it almost looks as if the copper-colored film has flaked off.

Is that truly the case?

Yes, it is a paper thin layer and is not pliable. In some of the holes it flaked out and in 2 it remained intact in the hole.

Copper spray to kill galvanic corrosion between the rotor bolt (one kind of steel), rotor (a different kind of steel) and the alloy hub. It's a placebo, the bolts are still going to corrode where the 3 dissimilar metals meet.

Old boat thing (ex-Navy). Doesn't always work.
