1.  don't strip any screws... (removing the screws is not getting to the job... it is the job)...
...so, concentrate on getting each screw out cleanly, without stripping it, loosing it, or damaging the threads...
2.  give yourself room... clear a dining table size area, so that when that tiny part runs off,.. you can find it...
3.  There's a brass washer under the main jet,.. don't forget it...
4.  If you can't get the main jet to thread back in... the jet needle tube has slipped upward in the shaft... put your finger into the intake inlet and push it back down...
5. replace the float bowl and top cover screws with allen heads... (makes it easier next time)...

That's all I can think of... off hand...
Good luck,... don't rush... ;)...

Before you start, put a reasonably clean light-colored towel or equivalent on your work surface. That way, dropped parts don't bounce or roll quite so easily and they are easier to spot. After you get the carburetor off the bike, but before you start taking it apart, spray it down with carb cleaner or solvent. It is much easier and more pleasant to work on something that isn't covered in grime.

If you dont have a handheld impact, Id sure suggest one.

A #2 Philips is a stripped screw waiting to happen. You can knock the tip flat on a grinder & mess with it till it sits into the screw head fully or get JIS screwdrivers,
There are 2 tiny screws down inside. Mess them up & youre in a bind.

Hi
Thanks for the information.
Could you send me a picture or link
Of the kind of impact tool?

I have a large air impact wrench.

Thank you.   Jay

Before you start pounding on your carb. with an impact screwdriver,
go to your local Lowe's (they're the only place I've seen them) and
get a couple of the phillips tips with teeth. I think they're made by
Bosch, I started using these a couple years ago and they have not
failed to remove a good,  undamaged phillips screw. They are just
the tip so you'll need to come up with a handle or adapter to 1/4"
for a socket wrench. By teeth I mean they have small ridges on
the part that fits into the screw head, they fit so well the screw will
stay on the tip as if magnetized.

Before you apply torque, set the screwdriver tip into the screw & LOOK at where the tip falls in the X. If it doesnt lay into the X fully, youre set up to shaft yourself.,

If you're planning on soaking everything down with carb cleaner, make sure you take out both the diaphragm attached to the slide AND the diaphragm in the TEV whatchamajigger on the side of the carb.  Neither one is cheap to replace if you ruin them with cleaner.

I ran into a similar problem back when I had a 250cc Chinese scooter.  What exactly are they making these carbs out of?  The metal seems quite soft.

After the last disaster I was tempted to replace any screw I could with stainless steel.

I replaced every screw I could with "normal" stainless steel socket head screws. Life is much simpler for future cleanings.
