Title: Clutch Cover changed?
Post by greenmonster on 03/08/13 at 08:28:02

Hi Guys,

I have an old 86 rightside crank case cover sitting beside me. As far as I can tell the clutch side of the bike has not changed in the 20+ years that the bike has been produced. I checked on bike bandit and the part number on the film is the same. I'd like to polish or paint this guy and put it on my bike but I don't want to put the work into it if it's not going to fit properly.

Has anyone switched that cover around? Is it a straight swap or will it require modifications?

You haven't had a answer for a while,... (I was waiting for someone that has done a definitive swap)... but, no ...
...so,.. I'll venture that if it has the same part no.,.. I'd assume it would work...
In other words,.. if it were me,.. I'd go fer' it... :-?...

(Bump?)...

definitively, no I can't say absolute as I've never had an '86

But an '87 ya sure howdy to any year.

I have never bumped into any differences year-wise on the clutch side cover.

The only item to really check would be the size of the seal that mates to the crank spud to make up the oil path and the cranks show to all be the same part number and the seals all show to be the same part number.

...... so likely it is a universal side cover and a universal main side gasket for all years.

The oil filter area cover and the rest of the side cover are polished as one assembly, so if you buy a separate one of either one you may see profile differences at the mate up.    But it would only be cosmetic.
