Title: In lay terms.....
Post by raydawg on 02/25/13 at 19:17:18

I have read post/replies that tell/warn of getting gas into the oil....
My question is, how does that happen? I'll take a stab at it first  :-/

If the fuel system fails in some nature, gravity will empty the tank out into the cylinder head (where we have spark/combustion) and leaks down past the oil rings?

Did I win a cookie, or am I still stupid?

Gravity.... such a bee'otch!... ;D...

If the stock vacsucker petcock gets a leaky diaphragm... fuel will run down the vac line and fill everything below the tank, eventually, settling in the crankcase...
... conversely,.. if yer' float sticks with a Raptor,..(and you leave the petcock in "on" position)
(which I always do)... :-?...
Fuel will again follow the path of gravity...

The advantage of the Raptor?...
I can turn it off...
What are your options with a leaking vacsucker?... (on, reserve, and prime,... turns into,...on, on, and... on...)...
Ultimately,... I like to be in charge...
...if it leaks?,... my fault... but, if I want it stop?,.. I want that option, too...
I'm a control freak... :-?...

It will become painfully obvious fairly soon into your ride if this has occurred. You will first notice at a little over a mile into your ride that there is a slick sheen of oil being left behind you and covering your rear tire (slight safety concern). This is the oil being pumped out of the crankcase breather because the crankcase is too full. If your breather has been relocated to the decomp lever area then the oil will be covering your left leg and will at least be keeping you warm. I know these things, dont ask me how.

Folks, this thread is Raydawg's third offence at intentionally trying to create a controversy thread in RSD by "asking a question" that he has no real problem associated with it and that he already knows the answer to.

RSD is for people to bring real problems about their Savage, not for folks to just poke at old issues for the entertainment of it.

If Raydawg wants to learn even more about petcocks, he can use Search and read all about all the past petcock wars.   We certainly don't have to re-live them just for his entertainment.

Thread is locked.
