Title: someone kicked my bike over Post by strang on 02/25/13 at 16:19:25 Went to visit a friend tonight and some idiot on the council estate kicked my bike over. Came out of my mates flat to find my savage on its side and sitting in a pool of gas. Ouch. On the plus side only exterior damage was a mashed indicator and some general scratches. On the down side, I couldn't get her started. I presume it's flooded and it was late and cold so I bused it home. Gonna go look at it tomorrow afternoon after work - what should I be checking? My list so far goes: - take out spark plug and clean/dry. - check air box for fuel. do I need to worry about fuel in my oil?

You were lucky to not find a flaming inferno. Modifications come w/ consequences,.....like checking all of the above.

Gravity probably sent all the fuel to the pavement,.. so, I doubt it went in your oil... Which side did it fall on?... Check for fuel,... also check your oil level (in case some of that leaked out)... ... and lastly, check your battery water level, if you have a wet cell... Hopefully they are all okay,.. and she'll start up after sitting upright overnight...

I presume it overflows from the carbs, because the petcock was left in the on position? I turn the petcock off overnight but when just parking up for an hour or two I am lazy  ::)

Let it dry out for a bit (probably not essential but I was getting superstitious). Reassembled and after a fair bit of cranking - bam, we're back. For any newbie like me who needs to drain the float bowl after flooding - there's a specific screw/tap in the middle/bottom of the bowl designed for this purpose. I of course didn't notice this until I had taken the whole bowl off  ::) Live and learn and ride :)

I of course didn't notice this until I had taken the whole bowl off  ::) Live and learn and ride :) If you empty the bowl then set the petcock to Pri "prime" that will fill the bowl back up and you want have to do all the cranking to get it going.

My bike got dropped on the left side by a PO when he forgot to put the sidestand down. He actually admitted it by way of explaining a small scuff on the left side of the tank. Anyway when I went to adjust the shift lever position I discovered the rod was bent in a shallow arc. Not enough to affect the way the bike shifted, but it made it impossible to spin the rod to make the adjustment. I had to take the rod off and straighten it. Its pretty soft; bends real easy. Probably a good thing. I'd rather have the rod bend  if the lever hits the ground than bust something inside the cases.
