Title: Homemade Side mount license plate
Post by trini tuner on 02/22/13 at 09:33:48

Have any of you done a homemade side mount license plate bracket on our bikes? Im looking for some ideas on design, mounting location and general integrity of the mount (I dont want it cracking and falling off on me so i would rather hear from you guys first). I have a 1930's Ford style taillight that i will use with the bracket.

Bump...

I mounted mine, left-side, with a bracket attached under the seat...
I wanted the lights up off the ground, and suspended...
Bulbs take a beating if they are mounted to the unsuspended swingarm... and we have some nasty roads here...

Bike on he left.... sorry, I don't have a better pic...

I like it! I want to mount mines in a similar spot but vertically. After looking at the bike some more ive determined im most likely going to use the shock bolt as the mounting point. I want to use a single piece of sheet metal or aluminum and cut and bend it into shape.

While most folks seem to get away with it usually, sometimes the police persons get annoyed at vertical license plates.

There is a lot of border on our license plates that have no writing in them.  I wonder how much hassle I would get if I just folded a bit of that under to reduce the overal size of the plate?  It would be much easier to mount the plate if the size was not so big.....and the size can be reduced 1/2 inch on each side without affecting the words or numbers.

I suppose it is like anything else......just depends what officer you get, what mood he is in......and what you did to get pulled over in the first place.
