Title: bike won't start
Post by blacklabeloutlaw on 02/15/13 at 15:16:40

I have a 97 savage I just bought from a fellow co-worker. This is my first motorcycle and don't know too much about them. My co-worker parked the bike before winter and has not started it in several months and now will not start. Also, there are two hoses on the right side of the bike that run to nothing? I'm assuming one is a gas vent but not sure?

If it turns over but won't start, and there's gas in the tank, you could try putting it on Prime, waiting a couple of minutes, then starting it again. I'm guessing the float bowl is probably empty, either because the PO drained it or because gas evaporated.

A Less than fully charged battery can cause it, too. Put it on prime, give it a try. Mite even put gas in if its low at all. Dont be afraid to charge it up.
If youve been trying to start it, its probably needing it,
How long has it been sitting?

You should drain all the old gas from the tank, then fill it with fresh
gas with a product like SeaFoam mixed in. Flush the carb. with the
new gas and put the battery on a slow charge.
The info in post #4 should get the hoses back where they belong.
Remove the air filter and give it a shot of starting fluid and it should
start up, run it with 1/2 choke for a min. or so and you should be good
to go....
