Title: Looks like fun...
Post by Pine on 02/13/13 at 08:03:23

I have "Living social" kinda of a buyers coupon thing. Had good luck so far. Got this in the email this morn:

As the premier rental center for Harley-Davidson motorcycles -- as well as the largest company of its kind in the state -- EagleRider of New Orleans is your go-to place for wheels.

• $65 ($150 value) for a 24-hour motorcycle rental for an adult age 21 and older
• $35 ($76 value) for a 24-hour scooter rental
• Climb aboard the Harley or scooter of your choice & explore the Crescent City
• Located on Canal Street; open Monday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

So I get to rent a HD in New Orleans for 24 hours for $65. The heck with cruising Burbon... Run up and down I-10! ( Biloxi or something)

What yall think?

One day,.. when I'm free of commitments, have lots of spare cash, and have some free time... ::)...
I want to ride over, and see New Orleans... It's the number one place in the US that I'd like to visit...

Just gotta' wait for the freedom, cash, and time... :-?...   (those three things never seem to turn up, together)...

Take some pics for me, and enjoy that ride... ;)...

We rented a Harley Ultra Classic Soft Tail in Sarasota last year.  It was $ 85 for the daytime 9-5 rental, $ 140 for a 24 hour rental.  It got more expensive when I discovered that my car insurance is full ocvrage and covers rental cars.....my motorcycle insurance is only liability and does not cover rental motorycles.  The insurance from the dealer added $ 40 a day.

We did have fun, and the cost was waaaay cheaper than actually owning a Harley!  Monday night I stopped by the new Harley Dealer in Florence, KY and ask if they had a rental service.  THe answer was NO....but they do have a 1 year lease!

Bourbon Street isnt all there is to N.O.
Contact the Visitors or Tourist Bureau before youre even close to ready to go.
Get a visitors package.  The courthouse square used to have artists & their easels on the sidewalks. Shops down there. Used to be one Heck of a hobby shop down there.. but that was many years ago.I still have the Wellers solder gun, 36 years later.
Swamp tours, haunted houses, graveyard tours. They bury above ground there, cuz caskets will float to the top, somewhere,, maybe a mile from where its planted,,
There is more to do than get drunk. PLenty of really good food. Look away from the tourist places, too.

Go for it!  You cannot tell if you like a bike sitting on it or even on a 5 minute ride.  Riding a Vespa was weird.  Two hours later I was willing to go on the freeway.  A half hour later I knew the Vespa was freeway capable and I was comfortable on Los Angeles Freeways.

A Softtail is about double the weight of the Savage.  It will feel heavy.  A couple of hours later you may feel it is light.  The only problem would be if you like the Harley.

No worries Paladin, he won't like it. I've ridden that stretch on plenty of bikes, used to live a block and a half off US 90 in Long Beach MS. He'll LOVE being on something big enough to handle the horror show that passes for an interstate or a US highway. N.O. to Biloxi is BAD, Biloxi to any point eastward is WORSE.

My bike came from Suzuki City in Biloxi. 2 weeks later it was on a 2 up trip to Baton Rouge, from then on it saw Mobile several times, Dauphin Island, two trips to the L'il Sturgis (MS) rally, Pensacola... we moved to TN and it saw lots of west TN, east AR, west KY, north MS, north AL... Hauled it out west and it saw lots of mountain roads. Hauled it back to TN and haven't ridden it once in the 2 years we've been back, but, it's almost back together.

What passes for federal roads in this part of the country wouldn't make it as a goat path out west... ;D

Doesn't matter what bike you ride, the coast roads are horrible. But where a Savage will break the rear tire loose the HD is heavy enough to just roll with the punches. It's like wake hopping with a skiff or wake crushing with a cabin cruiser.  ;)

Well I aint paying $65 to ride up and down I-55... how boring is that!!!  ;D

Hey we got that fancy new I-10 ... also pretty boring... but it aint all pot-holed up ( yet)... see.. 90 = low and slow .. just have to dodge the blind blue-hairs on thier way to the casino

Ha! I was on the coast this past fall before Hurricane Isaac rolled through. Highway 49 sent the min truck airborne... And 90 through Bay Saint Louis and Gulfport was a horror show. Ran 10 from the Jordan River toward US 11 to head back north, got turned off 10 by the Highway Patrol and had to backtrack and come up through Kiln.

Not a one of the roads I was on would be considered mini bike (Savage or smaller) friendly... although... the main road from Kiln to Picayune is being repaved...
