Title: comfortable seat?
Post by demtho41 on 02/09/13 at 16:36:53

has anybody swapped out their seat for a different one without many modifications? I have the issue of I like long rides, but after about 60 mile I get off and my tushy is so uncomfortable I dread sometimes sittign back on the bike.

I currently am using a seat from a Suzuki S50  Boulevard (800cc V-twin). My bike is currently apart for a rebuild but I turned the front mounting brackets around 180 degrees and used two 1 1/8" clamps like these for the front and then glued a piece of that hard sanding block black rubber to the bottom of the seat to support it in the back. I will send pics when I put the seat back on.

A lot of members have had high praise for the Corbin, but $270 is a little spendy. :-/

I agree $270 is quite spendy, cause as it is I have to do the white spacer modification to fix the backfire and I have to fix oil leak from under the speedo. I think I might try and take my seat to a couple different local dealerships and see if maybe there is anything that matches up. Maybe a Harley one will fit or one off a yamaha or something.

I also have a similar problem... but after moding stock seat (about which I wrote) comfortable mileage increased to approximately 100 miles away. but still, I want to yet. so am going to replace the seat cover and slightly change the shape of the...
not decided-what do coating...but "there is still time, there is Meller!" :)

I used an Air Hawk 2 pad on a 2,000 road trip. The longest daily segment was 511 miles. It eliminated the pressure points and numb butt but did not do much for the lower back. You might want to consider one if you can't find another option. I have since picked up a Corbin and highly recommend it.

Good hunting

That Corbin looks nice,, But way out of my price range.

Spend money or time.  Those are the choices.  I too thought the custom seats were a little pricey, and started modding mine.  Took a few tries to get it really right, but now it is perfect.  (For my butt anyway)

A Harley Sportster seat is a decent improvement over the stock that won't break the bank.  You have to make your own mounting bracket, but that can be done for <$20 at your local Ace hardware.

2 layers of 3/8" blue camping pad covered with leather worked fine for years. All on the stock pan so it just bolts right on.

Have been building brackets to put a Kawasaki Vulcan 800A seat on my 98 Savage. Real seat, I've done several hundred miles in a day on a VN800A, should be an improvement on the Savage, But, it has to be an 800A seat, the 800B (Classic) stock seat sucks... I've owned both A and B 800s.

Anything, including an old phone book, wrapped in duct tape,  is better than the stock torture device (I mean seat)...
