I was removing the stator cover and tipped the engine ove a hair to pull it off and I hear this thud on my work bench. I don't know where it came from or where it goes.

I don't believe you removed the stator cover.....it looks like you removed the clutch cover.

That pin could be the one that slides into the cener of the clutch, and pushes the clutch in when you pull the lever.

I already had the cluth cover off and was removing the stator cover when I tipped it on the clutch side this pin fell out of the cluth side. Sorry for the confusion.
