Title: Re: and he is darn beautiful isn't it? Post by jcstokes on 01/19/13 at 10:49:07 I had a later model Jawa 350 model 634 in the mid to late 'seventies, it was a third of the price of the Honda CB and other similar sized bikes. It's main bearings failed after about a year, but once this was fixed it was a good bike, but had it's quirks, in wet weather one cylinder would always drop out. A squirt of WD 40 always fixed this so I carried a can. Replacing leads and attempting to insulate around the coils did nothing. I did about 12000 miles on one set of plugs, unusual for a two stroke. Unfortunately I was knocked off it twice in a year 1979-'80 and that was the end of motorcycling until a GN 250 in 2007 and the S40 in 2010. |

Title: Re: and he is darn beautiful isn't it? Post by srinath on 01/19/13 at 11:36:39 Jawa 250's and 350's were MAN's bikes in India. The crazy left kick starter that doubled as a shifter ... you shift with your toe ... fuggettaboutit ... use your achillies tendon baby ... what ... you cant walk after 2 days on the jawa ... yup, that comes standard. The 350 was introduced ... and the first ones in line were the 250 owners who could not walk cos they tore their achilles tendon. In the months since ... the 250's went dirt cheap. My brother picked up one ... freaking blast. Cool. Srinath. |

Title: Re: and he is darn beautiful isn't it? Post by ToesNose on 01/21/13 at 06:29:35 Yea my best friend's father had one sold by Sears when I was growing up, we used to sit on it all the time!! Love it!!! :D |
Title: Re: and he is darn beautiful isn't it? Post by arteacher on 01/22/13 at 07:19:01 Friend of mine had a 250 when I was in high school. A couple of very drunk university students rear ended him and his passenger going 90 in a 50 zone. It put the passenger right through the windshield and rear window of the car, killing him instantly. My friend went over the car, and was in the hospital for 3 months, and never rode again. I ride past that spot frequently and I always think of them when I do. That was the only one I have ever seen. |
Title: Re: and he is darn beautiful isn't it? Post by WD on 01/22/13 at 08:10:54 We had one at the last bike shop I worked for. Hershey bar wrapper brown. I was the only employee who could ever start it. Interesting little bikes, but I wouldn't want to ride one every day. The one we had was a knock off of a Puch. |

Title: Re: and he is darn beautiful isn't it? Post by justin_o_guy2 on 02/20/13 at 11:27:09 Intake sure goes in low, is it a 2 stroke? Like that squared off engine. Headlight bucket size is cool & fits well with the heavy shape of the bike & tires. Front end is eyecatching. Im not familiar with that design at all. I dont understand the black thing on the right rear,, chain oiler up in there? Naaaah, that'd be nasty,,, Id think the air intake coulda been done so as to not poke out & be in the way. Im usually hard set against hard tails, but that seat looks like it would soften it up enough,, But, I prefer suspensions that work, because I want to hit corners. Maybe that woould do everything I would want to do,,I dunno,, |
