Title: Silly chaps question
Post by Greg on 01/18/13 at 15:22:50

OK. So I bought leather chaps after saying I never would. I like them, for the most part, and they seem to keep me warm and dry. I think I even got over the whole Village People thing. The problem I have is they keep falling down. I am a big boy but am all gut and no butt. The belt doesn't stay tight. I am sure with me moving about and the leather stretching, it will never be tight. Do they make some sort of chaps suspenders?  ::) :-[ :-? :o

Wow... that would be like MORK meets the Village People...
Sorry; no offense, but it looked really funy in my head!

Seriously, I'm sure whatever you use to hold up your regular pants should work, right?

HA HA...village people, I knew there was sumtin I didn't like about chaps  :-*
Not sure if this would work, but if you fashioned a belt with Velcro to go around your buttless gut, with a few mating spots that line up your chaps in conjunction with your belt, maybe perhaps? I try and picture s'penders doing the job and I keep getting a vision of a limping grandpa McCoy chasing little Luke around the barn in them (chaps)

I suppose regular suspenders would work with chaps...

The nice thing is,.. they won't give you a snuggy... :-?...

Staples?
(Sorry, I forgot it was a Japanese bike.)
Metric Staples?

I wear suspenders with a pair of armored fabric mesh overpants and they work great holding up the weight plus they enhance the bad a55 look. If you are tough enough to wear suspenders, you're too tough to mess with.  8-)

I guess my concern is if a pair of suspenders with the clips would ruin a pair of expensive a$$less pants. And sometimes I wear suspenders with my jeans. Is it permissible to wear 2 pairs at the same time?  :o

I've heered tell some folks use binder twine or rope to hold up ther overhalls.
Of course if ya wants to be extree secure, you kin use the "handymans secret weapon" Duct tape!!!

I tell ya what, if you decide to go the suspenders route I'd really appreciate a pic.  The visual in my head is killing me.  ;D

Two pairs of suspenders?...   :-/...
My concern is that your shoulders will get shorter...

Methinks,.. if you clip up yer' chaps... it becomes impossible for yer' pants to fall off...
:-?...

(Is this becoming one of those,... "Pick yer'self up by yer' own bootstrap" things?)...  :-/...

Just get some leather overalls and be done with it.

Just ask the guys at the YMCA how they do it. ;)

Go to Lowes or Home Depot and get a pair of suspenders that are made for carpenters & such, they are heavy and sturdy enough to do the job and the cost is very reasonable.
Besides, they are more manly looking ... not the village people type.   ;)

Well, I am glad everyone has fun with my problems!  ;D

I actually didn't even know they made leather overalls until I trimmed the chaps and made them non-returnable.  :-[

I only need them until the low temps are in the mid-forties again. I think I can survive another couple months.

I will still pick up a set of non-Village People suspenders.  :o

I used the trimmings off my chaps to build a face cover. It Definitely gets attention. If I was hauling a chain saw in for service I wouldnt wear it. People would be running & screaming.

Greg, thanks for this question.  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  I have no answers, just a silly grin on my face, for some reason.  Chaps, suspenders, belts, bailing twine, duct tape, staples, metric staples.  Good stuff there.

I think it made me think about my dad.  He used to wear a belt and suspenders at the same time.  I kidded him about not taking any chances.  ;)

My father in law does that, belt and suspenders at the same time. Makes him look even goofier than he usually does, but at 87 I guess he's allowed to be a bit eccentric.

Relace the back of the chaps tighter, eventually they'll catch on your pelvic wings and stay in place. I'm getting to be the same way, have to wear a second belt if I'm carrying one of my full sized revolvers. I hit 40 and my butt fell off...
