Title: stupid little oil pump drive pin
Post by mike.514 on 01/13/13 at 17:49:22

Hey guys been lurking around this site(great site) for some time and finally joined. So i popped the clutch cover to check cam chain adjuster, and out pops this little rod. :-/ much searching and i discover it is for the oil pump to engage. so did i do something wrong(like move it out of tdc. wich i think i did) would that be enough to drop this pin or do i blame seth >:((previously my mechanic) also wondering if i can pop the clutch pack when bike is not at tdc? any tips or threads would be apreciated

if you're talking about a 1/4" round pin about a 1/4" long...

blame the previous mechanic, he put the oil drive gear on backwards.

DO NOT RUN IT THIS WAY!

there'll be no oil pressure and you're soon to have a lump of metal for a motor.

Take off the clutch pack, the gear most often comes with it.
review the correct orientation and reinstall.

Maybe the push rod for the clutch?

See if it pokes into the end of the clutch pack.

Checked the SSM, too short for clutch push rod. Did not see any dimensions given for the oil pump drive pin but that is the only thing I see in that area that it could be. Hopefully, your previous mechanic just lost it in the engine & put another in it's place.

I believe I would tear it down & make sure if it was mine. 8-)

You spose the last guy in there got done & found it in his tool tray & just dropped it thru the oil fill hole?

A pic Would be a grand thing.

Too long for the oil pump gear, too short for the clutch actuator.

Hollow?

The description reads 4 x 15.8, which is close to 5 x 12

I hope it's not that one... you have to split the cases to get at it.

ok checked the 1/4 1/4 pin behind clutch. its there and the gear was installed corectly. its not clutch push rod and i think i can see #3 on oil pump diagram from the outside. have been searching bike bandit and have ruled out most.
verslagen is that pin visible behind and under the cluch on outside a cases.

i fear its crank shaft #14. but cant fid measurements anywhere.

does anyone know the dimensions of #14 on the crank case? or know how to find out without shipping cost of buying it?

& youve looked at each end & its not a broken off bit?

How was it you came to find that? Was it running okay?

bougth bike with 11k rode to 18 k over two years. head plug always leaked but became a problem when some head cap bolts broke. dropped engine took off head cap. drilled bolts. this seemed like a good time to put on cam adjuster extension. popped clutch cover, looked, wiggled clutch pack, think pushed it out of tdc. stupid pin dropped out. cant imagine that it fell out of the rabbit holes but nowhere else it could have come from. its not oil pump drive gear pin or the pin behind the circle clipunder and right of clutch pack
