Title: Thwarted school bombing plot
Post by Jerry Eichenberger on 01/07/13 at 07:59:37

Did anyone else see the story about the 17 year old in Alabama who was plotting a bomb attack against his school?

A teacher found a journal he had written, naming students and one teacher for assasination.  He had two tobacco cans in his home with powder and pellets.

The Sheriff who arrested the kid said the bombs would have worked.  Kudos to the teacher for taking this seriously and also to the kid's parents, who consented to a police search of their home without making them take time to get a warrant.

No guns involved here.

If he had guns, he'd have rampaged already ...
Maybe he was gonig to do it undetected and walk away.
Cool.

I just dont understand why the anti gunners dont get it. Crime stats have shown a drop in crime when gun control laws are relaxed. Where gun control laws exist, higher crime rates exist. If there had been a few armed Good Guys, how long would the shooting spree have lasted?
Logic escapes the Libgressives every time.
I wonder if any of these anti gunners can admit the NDAA applies to Americans..

Right you are JOG, 100%. We need to put well trained and well armed guards, cops, soldiers etc etc @ every gas station, residence, warehouse, farmhouse, henhouse, outhouse, dog house, school house, pool house and ping pong house in the whole country. That will stop the gun violence - the NRA man said. Perfect.

OK and we will pay for it ... how ? Yes taxing guns, and bullets ...

Not disagreeing with the gun nuts ... just asking how it will be paid for ...

Cool.

I would like the good old days back,When the constitution was written,If you disagree and don't like some one you can duel them in the streets. As long as were at it I want a couple slaves to clean my house and mow the lawn,Of course like the good old days I want them to be about 15 year old girls,They are nice to have around. Or we can go a head in time and have cowboy gun fights in the streets.Boy life is sure boring in theses modern times.Lets bring back the good life.

Always have to go to the extreme. One of the left heros VP Biden said yesterday. "if it saves one life it is all worth it" WELL IS IT? But you guys dont want to put a trained officer in schools to protect the kids. The more I read this stuff the more I am convinced it has nothing to do with safety or saving lives, it is just about Ideology and which side wins. Private property should be protected by the owners and public property should be protected by the state or federal government (whomever owns it), both sides can thrash this out for the next 50 years but untill a solution is found are OUR KIDS NOT WORTH PROTECTING?

Title: Re: Thwarted school bombing plot
Post by justin_o_guy2 on 01/10/13 at 08:41:44

SURE the kids are worth protecting,, but THEIR way,, the way thats been shown to NOT work, by Gun Control. They HAD gun control in the schools where the kids have been killed, didnt they? A Gun Free Zone is just s shooting gallery for fruit loops.
How many retired cops would volunteer to roam the halls?

sandy hook had a locked door that requires a receptionist to buzz you thru.

How much more does it cost to have a armed receptionist?

Why retired cops and why volunteer ? you want it to be @ someone else's cost dont you ?
It will have to be active working cops, and they have to be paid for by taxing guns and ammo by the federal govt.

Once again... you avoid the obvious, how much does it cost to steal a bullet?  Sandy hook stole 4 guns and the ammo.  Let's for a moment assume the guns and ammo were properly locked away.  And dopey moma told the kid where the key was or what the combo was or he just kept his eyes open.  Of course he coulda did her with her bedside gun and then had all day to get into the gun safe.  Just like any other criminal.

Today's shooting in California was with a shotgun, not a handgun, not an assault type of weapon.

Schools have got to get on top of some kind of program to profile students and identify those who are at risk for violent behavior of all types - not just shooters, but also the kids who may rape another student, beat them up in a locker room, use a knife on another student, or whatever.  Behavior is out of control because schools have become impotent to identify and deal with bad kids.  There are kids who fall into two main groups:  mentally disturbed, and those who are just rotten to the core.  Each must be identified and appropriately dealt with before they act; not after.

Were they given a choice, you can have a few 1000 ... or kill random people.
Now If the bullets cost more ... they'd have been locked up.
People lock up their guns, not their bullets.
Aurora shooter will not have got his bullets at all if they cost more ... he bought them just before the rampage ... he'd not have had the $$$.
Sandy hook, I am not sure how much earlier Mommy bought the bullets ... but it could have been just a few days prior ... and a 100 buck bullet would have had her get ... I dunno 3 instead of 3000.

You have to change the laws, and let some tuime pass and the excess supply work itself out. You cant change the law and the very next day there's a shooting and go ... yea that didn't work.

Cool.

There was a story on Yahoo yesterday about large numbersof teachers in Texas and one other state which I can't recall rushing to get concealed carry permits, anticipating that their local school boards will allow them to carry in school.
You bet I can see teachers wanting to be armed.  Especially male teachers who may well be hunters, or other gun owners themselves.  Not bashing women; just the fact that most gun enthusiasts are men.
Best thing that could happen would be for a couple of nuts to enter schools and get blown away the minute they threaten someone - that would end this craziness right now.

More gun control = more gun violence.

I agree that i dont want guns in school, the problem is they are already there so how are we going to protect our kids? Even if you banned all guns and sent the military out to collect them all it would take decades to stop them and this country would probably be at civil war and if you raise the tax to $100 per bullet it would take decades to use up what is out there. So what are we willing to do to stop these guys tomorrow. No one on either side of the aisle likes what is hapening. If we cant put armed gaurds in the schools then give me another answer that will protect the kids next week and not some crazy philisophical answer that will take decades to implement.

Parents in Newtown are asking police to stay in schools. Saying the kids are comforted by the presence of armed guards.

I am not talking about controlling anything.
We tax the bullets.
We take that $ and put armed guards and guns and training in schools.
Trachers want to be armed, and have concealed permits. OK you really now have to see what percentage of that is the result of the shootings in the school in CT. Its a reaction .. .cos if they were already gun enthusiasts, why do they not have guns already ?

Seriously I dont want to infringe upon any self defence or any freedom.

I'd rather have bullets locked away. Not hoarded in the future, and have something better to secure them than the flimsy "background check only for stores, not shows" type of crap.

Cool.

YOu dont think the citizens should be protected? YOu think the banks get bills from the cops for having On Duty Patrolmen assigned in them?

You ACT as if your assumptions are correct. WHY do you assume the teachers dont already have guns, at home? & What is it about your brain that demands these teachers already BE gun enthusiasts? Some may be Very REcent converts,

What does it matter if they never wanted to own a gun before? Maybe some have them, maybe not,, I have a hard time believing out of an entire school No One owns a gun,,but, so what? Who cares if they believed in having a gun 3 weeks ago? If they want one NOW, its their RIGHT.,.

Again, I wonder how many retired cops would happily spend a day a week at the schools?

Look up
Intellectual Dishonesty

Anyone who wants to "volunteer" first needs to be evaluvated ... they may be criminals or psycho's ... otherwise, anyone who is unpaid is fine to sit @ a school when they are able to (as long as they clear the check).
The cops posted @ schools are nto retired. They are active, they need to be paid. If teachers want to spend the extra time and $ getting guns, and training etc etc to retain proficiency and do all that for free, they are welcome to, I am just not for dumping the costs onto the regular tax payer.

And, I dont need to look up anything. I know what it is and I see it often in you, webster and a lot of others. Like the cartoon posted by parquat. Good. Thanks.

Cool.

Fantastic. We finally see eye to eye on something.
Too bad it's zero tolerance this and gun free zone that.

Obama is the president there will be gun control as needed,Romney lost for good reason,He still can't believe he lost. Republican are all like Romney they change their mine every day. They want less spending but want a cops all over to defend them like schools, Wal Mart, gas stations. They want less government control,But want the government to supply cops so they don't get hurt. What every happened the the America I grew up in.       America The Home Of The Brave.  Now you Republicans get your panties off and act like a man.

That's not quite what I said ...
Those that want to work as security guards @ schools out of their own time and $ can. If that is not adequate coverage, the govt needs to fund a paid force to do so, and tax the gun and bullet sales to cover that.

Cool.

That would just send the criminal/whacko to the next town.
We all know this argument is the Lucy vs sofa spring episode.

Only nation wide will work ... heck that wont work, mexicans will be smuggling bullets ... but bullets will take the place of drugs ... so we have a double sided benefit there.

Canada - we gotta also stop it from comming that way ... heck we should get canada to do the same.

Cool.

If the janitor wants to carry, as long as he is legally able and has passed a sufficient background check like I'm sure most teachers are required to do, he may if he choses.
I'm fine with that.

How many of you "old" guys used to carry a bowie knife to school in your days?

Well you'd be the first I've heard of.
I've heard elders speaking of carrying foot long knives in belt holsters to school.

An Ohio school board has unanimously voted to place armed custodians on their k-12 campus in an effort to better protect their students from a future mass shooting.

Following Wednesday's believed unprecedented 5-0 vote in the state, four male janitors were the first to volunteer to arm themselves with their own handguns on the rural Montpelier campus, the Toledo Blade reports.

The vote will permit only non-teaching employees to carry the firearms on the campus, so long as they complete a weapons training course.

Packing: This K-12 school district in Montpelier, Ohio has unanimously voted to allow janitors and any other non-teaching employee to carry fire arms on campus
'It's kind of a sign of the times,' Superintendent Jamies Grime said on Friday.

The move comes as districts and lawmakers across the nation weigh how to protect students following the December school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut.
The school board's legal counsel accompanied the vote, Mr Grime told the Blade, who advised Ohio’s gun law which allows school boards to authorize employees to possess weapons on school grounds, should they pass the requirements of the concealed-carry law.

The school's decision would not be the first, at least in the country, however.

A school district in Harrold, Texas has allowed its teachers and other employees to carry weapons on campus since 2007, reports the New York Daily News.
Following the December shooting in Newtown, school districts in Oklahoma, Missouri, Minnesota, South Dakota and Oregon are also considering similar gun safety amendments.

On Thursday the Montpelier school district announced their decision on their school website and Facebook page, acknowledging parents having not been notified of their plan until now.
They explain: 'the plan will not be enacted for many weeks, which allows for adequate time to notify parents of the plan.'

'No one will be carrying a concealed firearm for at least one month. It will take time to properly train people and this must be completed before the plan will be enacted,' they wrote.

On the school district's Facebook page, more than a dozen reacted positively to the announcement.

A firearms training program called GunTeachers took opportunity to also share on the school’s Facebook page their current educator's discount: Free gun training to Ohio and Michigan school teachers and administrators.

'While current laws do not permit firearms to be carried on school property, this course is designed to make you more comfortable with a firearm and provide a broader knowledge base on the issue,’ they wrote of their program said to be taught by professional law enforcement officers and licensed attorneys.

‘This may be one solution in the future to prevent the next tragedy. GunTeachers appreciates and recognizes your role in keeping students safe,' they write of their program.
