Title: 86 savage warms up, then bogs out
Post by MrTinajero on 12/31/12 at 10:21:35

So i have an 86 savage. When i got it, it ran fine, but After about two weeks, it started this problem. I can turn it on fine, idles great but once the bike fully Warms up, it bogs down and dies. Already had the carbs cleaned as well as the float bowl. If.anyone has any idea whats going on or have experienced tbis problem before, please give me some advice thanks.

Well,.. it sounds like a fuel problem,.. so I think you're lookin' in the right place...
Have you tried this test?... :-?...
Test your Petcock,.. don't just turn it to Prime.. (http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1251932429/1)

how long does it take to warm up?

are you using choke to warm up?

Takes about 10 min to completely warm up. No choke. But even if using choke, same problem

I have to agree with check the petcock.  Sounds like a fuel issue.

When it bogs, what happens?  Any popping, back firing, stumbling if you try to take off, or does it just die?

When cleaning carbs, don't forget the little screen above the float valve.

Ok, it dies. What does it take to get it started again ?
If it died from too much fuel, I would be very hard to start again.
If it died from lack of fuel, it wouldn't start again untill you turn it to prime,.......if the petcock is working properly.

It seems like it has to cool down again completely before i can start it. Because once it dies, every time i try to start it, the engine will turn over once and that's it

Doesn't that sound like a either a low battery, or a comp release problem, along w/ a fuel problem ?
Turn it to prime, start it, then after it dies, loosen the carb drain screw, if no fuel there, look for a blockage upstream.
Anytime the engine won't turn over, look for a low battery, or battery/starter/ground connection,.....or comp release adjustment.
