Title: Wider front tire?
Post by newriverjunkie on 12/03/12 at 19:28:15

Ok so I looked through the index and even searched every combination of wider front tire that I could think of...to no avail.  Has anyone put a wider front tire on their Savage?  Any pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

140-90-15 is about the limit,.. with the stock set-up...
Beyond that,.. you're looking for clearance with flatter bolts, wider swingarm, more shock,.. wider rim...

140-90-15 will also correct yer' speedo error... ;)...

So anything past a 110 I would have to re-lace the rim?  Aight I'll do some looking into tires and what-have-you.

And +1 on the good looking ride Bot!  Ever since I first saw your tank I loved the look...not my style but hey to each his own!  8-)

If you change rims you can squeeze a 120 in there. But expect to have clearance issues with the fender bolts. 110 is the practical max. If you want the bike to handle better swap on a 90/90-19 or the entire hub/rim/tire assembly from an 800 Intruder 80/90-21.

I ran a 110/90 on the front of this one.If I remember correctly the front fender would not fit it.

yeah,

i put on a 110/90 by mistake - had to raise the fender with homemade adapter.

Demin does this change the handling at all?  What should I expect?  I'm running without the fender already so having to remove it is not a big deal...and I'm tryin to do some looking and research in advance of my tires needing replaced, still have lots of tread left on them so I'll be good for awhile.

A tire is considered "unsprung weight" and less is usually better--but there is the issue of personal preference and the subjective issue of "looks". It will handle differently. The question is, will it be enough to even be noticeable.  :)

I did so much to the frontend I can't say any one thing was to blame. The handling slowed waaaaay down. Not unsafe, just different than say a 90/90 tire. You get used to it.
The 14" apes combined with the stock risers gave alot of flex, also no front fenderf, and the bigger tire.

So is this a way to go to a 21"? Is it a direct swap?
