Title: I had this crazy thought today Post by Badass94Cad on 11/30/12 at 13:23:52 Perhaps I should consider a full face helmet if I'm going to ride when there's snow on the ground. It was freakin cold this morning!!! :o |

I was thinking the same thing Wednesday. I have a full face, just don;t like it as much as the 3/4. I guess winter has finally arrived. :( |
Title: Re: I had this crazy thought today Post by ZAR on 11/30/12 at 18:27:53 Cad I only have a 3/4 lid and I rarely wear that. In the winter I use either a baclava(?) or a neoprene mask I got at CycleGear. Both are the "FreezeOut" brand and do me fine on the interstate up to 75mph at 40*F. Below that I'm fine for 55-60 mph down to 35*F. I'm gettin too old to ride at temps below 35* except maybe the 6 mile ride into town. |
Title: Re: I had this crazy thought today Post by houstonbofh on 11/30/12 at 19:28:46 I have had 3 major motorcycle wrecks. Two head ons... And here is my take on helmets. This is from the big California 10 year motorcycle crash statistics data dump. Quote:
I do not always use a helmet, but when I do, it is full face with a solid chin guard. The reason is that at slow speeds in Houston summers the heat can be more of an accident risk... On the highway, or in winter, I use the full face. I have a gouge in a full face, and a scar on my chin from a 3/4 to tell me why. Also, if you use a 3/4 or shorty, you get less than half the protection and all the spinal trauma risk. :( |
Title: Re: I had this crazy thought today Post by justin_o_guy2 on 11/30/12 at 21:02:25 Full coverage is a great idea. If youve ever seen the Hurt ( yea,, thats right, the name of the guy who did the study's name was Hurt) & he will show ya what %age of the time different areas of the head got, well,, hurt. The jaw / lower face takes a high %age of the shots to the head. |

LOL, that's funny, well, the name anyway. The dentist next door to my dentist is Dr Payne. I'm trying to think what it would be like to recommend him in a grocery store conversation? |
