What are your plans for the fork lowers, or do you have any...those are the only things that seem out of place to me....other than that, awesome bike!

Nice bit of work, there.  Even motorcycle-ignorant folks will notice that!

How often do you think you'll have to clean the header sweater?

Love the white!  Reminds me of "Mister Clean" for some reason! 8-)
You don't wear white T's and have a bald head do you? ;)

Post by paulmarshall on 11/15/12 at 18:33:25

Lol, No I wear a black leather jacket and a full head of hair.
Yes speedo is one of those things I need to get on with. I have brought one, and think I will mount it off the engine for now so I can use stock cable.

The header wrap has gone a tan color now. I think it breaks up the white. Will post a pic tomorrow and invite comments. If I dont like it i can paint the wrap I believe.

I'm not sure I follow. Anodizing doesn't work on steel - the part will continue to oxidize. Rust is porous.

yes, you can paint it, but it will keep losing the whiteness.  Painting a header sweater when it tarnishes is like painting the floor when it gets dirty.  After a while the paint gets too thick and gets crappy looking right after each paint job.

Looks like I will leave it tan color then. Blue Collar Bobbers said they heat white wrap to produce the tan color they sell.

HOw about a pic of the tan wrap? YOu know, the dang thing IS a ride, not a display in an art museum,. Its just hard to let go of NEEding it to be "Just Right".

White header wrap,,, on a bike, basically a white rag, wrapped around an exhaust pipe, exposed to all of lifes crud. What are the odds its stayin white?

Just refinish it to match the muffler.  That tan does detract.

I think it looks good w/ some contrast,

I don't think the tan will do much harm

I wonder if they make a white ceramic coat? :)

Title: Re: Fitted Exhaust Wrap and Painted Muffler
Post by paulmarshall on 11/17/12 at 21:02:50

Its still smoking and burning off the last bit of white. I think I will run it for a week and see what it looks like. I also think chroming the muffler might look better.I do have some of the silver heat paint left so could coat the header wrap with silver to match muffler, but will wait a week to see how brown it looks.

I agree with GyroBob that the Tan doesn't detract from the bike's good looks, but being a prior OCD person I can see how it might bug you.  So I would go with matching the muffler and exhaust pipe the same finish  ;)

As time goes by the tan appears to be getting lighter.

Are you going to put the rear mudguard on or leave things alone?

Title: Re: Fitted Exhaust Wrap and Painted Muffler
Post by paulmarshall on 11/18/12 at 20:54:10

Yes I am going to put rear gaurd on. I could do with some ideas regarding strut design or where to get pre made struts from. If anyone has put a tyre hugging rear gaurd on, can you please tell me how you mounted the fender struts.

My opinion on such a sanitary looking  bike.....is lose the heat wrap.  Heat wrap is something I expect on a "rat bike"......and it looks good on those bikes when it is discolored.  You have made a bike that is spotless and sanitary looking.....which is not a strong point for heat wrap.

You need a chrome pipe to match your muffler.....or you could get it white Ceramic coated.  The ceramic coating is shiny and durable and you can clean it.  White exhaust paint is flat and not really durable, and it will show all kinds of stains.....and you will be right back where you are right now.

Yes I think you make a valid point.
