Title: Do I really have to suck on ... Post by denistheruski on 11/11/12 at 14:05:10 ... the vac line while performing Serowbot's petcock test in order to see if I have diaphragm leakage? I sniffed the line after I took it off of the carb nipple and it did smell a bit like gasoline. Not sure if that's a sign of anything. |

Just another sort of paranoia coming up? ;) I personally am not shy for a handful of gasoline molecules in my mouth, so for a quick test I suck on the vac line from the carburetor side, close the line with the tip of my tongue and feel the continuous vac sucking my tongue. If it does for about 10 seconds, I can trust the diaphragm to be OK. Sucking pulses makes the work of the diaphragm audible. |

One carries gas, the other vacuum. it would not be impossible for a wif of gas to exist in the vac line, whether it's sucked in on shutdown or permiated thru the diaphragm. If one can get gas on his hands and thoroughly wash, then go into the house and still smell it... |
