Title: Question about brakes
Post by Violent_Rage on 11/11/12 at 06:44:20

Hello everyone.

Maybe this topic has already been discussed but i did not find the post about it.

Do you know if it's possible to install a rear disc brake?

My bike gets big laughs when I use the rear brake and the front isn't much strong!

Alternatively you know of bigger front discs?

Thank's!

I can make the front tire chirp, & thats the noise ya get, just before it stops rolling, so, for all the "Lousy front brake" comments, I say, its plenty good.

Now,, that rear brake,, it locks the tire up with almost no pressure on the pedal, right?

Well, no! ^^

Simply pressing on the pedal, with superhuman strength, amounts to doing nothing.

No brakes!

The same on fronts.
Something more, but certainly anything that would take away from danger when needed.

Big difference between yours & most others, then. Its time for some maintenance.

Can you move the brake actuator arm on the rear wheel by hand?
Id take the wingnut off & see if the pedal moves freely w/o the brake lever involved. Its not Bad Brakes, its in need of repair, these things will lock the rear up in a heartbeat,

Have a look down by the disc & see how much pad is left.

1st check the adjustment, the pedal will bottom out on one of the mounting bolts if you have it adjusted to low.
2nd lube the cable
3rd total tear down

as jog said, not normal, back will lock up in a heart beat.

what pads you using and when was the last time you replaced them?
check your brake fluid, clear or brown?

I've haven't made them chirp, but pad material will certainly affect stopping power.

The 1st EBC pads I got were terrible, as you said, superhuman powers required, and super soft wore out faster than stock.

The brand I like are "X" brand, used to be claimed to be kevlar, but that's a trade marked name, so now just listed by it's generic name which pretty much is nondescript or sometimes 'organic'

Now, pretty much use anything cheap and organic, but those X brand are lasting forever, over 10k miles.
