Title: back wheel wobble on descel/compression braking
Post by strang on 10/31/12 at 14:39:28

I'm in the habit using downshifting of gears to slow me down as well as braking. When I do this on my new Savage it seems to cause the back wheel/tyre to give a little wobble - is this normal?
is this due to belt drive? (new to me)
or cruiser back wheel? (never had a bike with this either)
Checked - swingarm has no wobble.
Is it just my bad riding  ::)

I feel it in hard left turns... I think it's big thumpy's engine pulses...

It isn't likely the wheel. The driven (BIG) belt pulley is sitting on rubber cushions in the wheel hub. They have some play. Lock the rear brake and push back with your other leg, you'll feel the pulley move. You'll want to try that someplace flat with a stone cold exhaust in case it falls over...
