So, with the help of a co-worker, I was able to put new tires on this past weekend. I've noticed that the front tire wasn't properly seated. I deflated, relubed, reinflated and now it looks right.

However, if I deflate it again, the tire pulls away from the rim.

Is this an issue? I had it up over 50 lbs and lube was squirting out everywhere. It just didn't set. Maybe it's too lubed.

Any comments?

Drunken, was your tire intended to be a tubeless tire?

If so, you are putting it on an old style tube type rim and the extra tubeless rubber lip material has no real place to go as it tries to seat. It winds up under compression in the seated bead area and slowly flows to conform to the rim (over time).

This is a problem with all modern tires to some degree as most all of them are intended for tubeless use. Just don't ever go over 60 pounds when popping the bead or you run the risk of a bead breakage (air explosion).

If you can get it to seat less than 60 psi, great. Stop inflating, wait a few and then reduce your pressure to the normal running pressure and if it stays bead seated you are DONE.

If not, stop, deflate it and take a little bit of axle grease and just grease up the portion of the tire that will not seat.

If this works for you, you are good to go -- the rubber in the tire will absorb the grease over time and you will not have any rim slippage issues as long as you don't have to grease over a quarter of the rim diameter (the un-greased 3/4 of the rim diameter keeps you stable)

It looks like it's seated, as long as I don't deflate it too far.

So...I think I'm OK!
