Title: Post 95 wiring harness on an 87 bike.
Post by srinath on 10/30/12 at 10:57:50

I am thinking of running an 96 wiring harness on this 87 I got. Cos I cannot find the rear cover of the start switch unit. And that switch wont come off the wiring ...
Therefore I want to swap the wiring to one where I got the switch assy that can be unplugged.

So what would work/not work and what needs to be modded if I want to use an 96 and later harness on my 87.

Thanks.
Srinath.

Front brake switch and cdi is all that I can recall.

brake switch goes from a wiper and plate contacts to a modular switch.

cdi connector is different, don't swap cdi's unless you swap the rotor too.

I have an '88 wiring and control set if you want to swap, but i'd want to swap the whole set.  not just one control.

OK I have the 87 CDI and the wiring as well, just that start switch back cover is not there.
Front brake not an issue, I have 96+ brakes to put in if needed.

The pins of the cdi on 96 to the wiring are different in location but the outer housing for the pins are the same ?

So I can pull the terminals out of the molex connector and swap em with the color codes of the 87 as reference ?

Cool.
Srinath.

Different number of pins, different connector.
See the tech section for a pin out chart.

You might be able to pull the pins out of one and shove it in the other.
