Title: My rubber worked....
Post by raydawg on 10/26/12 at 17:54:28

Pulled the front fender, and found a nice surprise with stainless hardware, and installed my mud flap. Had to drill 3 holes, and dang if I didn't nail them, uh, I didn't really nail them, I screwed them....uh, that doan sound right either  :-[
Anyway, my 10 buck piece of rubber knocked down most of the road wet that even rose up into my legs....all I got was some water on the front of my boots and nothing at all between the bike and the inside of my ankles, legs, etc.
I can do pixs if anyone wants to see it?
This will help greatly here in the Pacific Northwest  :)

Is the Pacific Northwest one of those places where you'll run into standing water on a clear 70deg day when it supposedly hasn't rained in 3 days?

Sounds like I'd be in waterproof gear all day every day. But hey, as long as the rain is warm, give it to me.

And as you can see I get pine needles and all sorts of road debris from riding around the island, its not a city with curbs and gutters and winos, no, but very rural....and the flap keeps the motor clean now too  :)

Looks like a good design,

That looks really good - almost like a factory option. That gives me ideas...

Has to be a better way to mount then drilling the holes.

That how the fender mounts to the forks, holes drilled, bolts, Holes & bolts & stuff like that are pretty well recognized as normal for a mounting method.

Yea I'd be leary of using 3M double sided tape to hold a mud flap on    ;D

Gotta love it. Factories design slim (and ineffective) fenders for styling. Bobber guys trim them even more, or remove them completely, because they are excess weight and unneeded. Other folks who sometimes ride in the rain, or even through puddles on the road, modify fenders to actually do their job. Stolen from Larry Niven, TANJ (There Ain't No Justice).

Well....just to give you some more "updates" on it. It rained pretty much all weekend, and again on my morning ride in. Windy as a bugger too. I saw the clouds bust up (for the most part) and decided to ride with just levis and tennis shoes.... Not a speck of water got on my pants of jeans, and again my motor looks so much better as its not catching the full brunt of the stuff the wheel kicks up....LOVE IT!

Find a better way to mount it, I'd love to see it  8-)

Maybe we can get some made that sports this site, a logo or whatever, and sell them  :-*
