I'm not doing this yet ,but I was wondering if you have to remove the tank to change the petcock,it looks like not.

It would be harder if the tank was off.
That said,, Ohhh Do be sure & put it on prime, with the hose off the carb, pointed into a gas can & drain it..

There's an excellent post on doing this in the tech section. Just make sure you run a litle into reserve before changing. Less time draining the tank that way.

I did the Raptor petcock and pulled my tank off. I don't think you have to remove it all the way, if you can lift it up and put something underneath it so you have some working room without disconnecting the speedo cable, you should be able to get it off the tank.

And make sure you let it drain in the prime position first like noted above. :)

On my bike it was impossible to remove the tank with the stock petcock in place - the back of the petcock hit the frame and had to be removed before the tank would clear the frame. Therefore......removing the stock petcock was required with the tank mounted on the bike. You might as well just put the Raptor on with the tank still mounted to the frame.....it is easy and only requires the removal and replacement of 2 screws. After draining the tank there will be a small amount of fuel that drips out when you take out the original petcock - have a rag in place to catch the drips.

You don't have to remove it. Just set a gas can on a block or something so you can drain the tank on prime. My petcock has bolts with hex heads AND phillips head slots also. 20 minute job.
