Title: Has anyone repacked their Raask?
Post by built2last66 on 09/28/12 at 11:11:37

I can't seem to find the 1/4th in thick fiberglass tubes (socks) that work best with the repack, and I've wasted 2 rolls of regular repack.. $30 down the drain... where the hell do you get those darn socks? :D

Ask Raask. (sorry, couldn't resist.) ;D
Have you checked out fiberglass pipe wrap?

I'm inclined to agree with arteacher--ask Raask.  If regular glass matting sheets aren't working for you I'm not sure you have any better recourse than Mr. Raask himself.

Raask doesn't use the standard fiberglass squares, he uses the "sock" type of 1/4th in fiberglass... which I'm having no darn luck finding... I have already asked him, and he vaguely states "you can find them at muffler dealers"... The Mysterious Mr. Raask  :D

Stop using fibreglass and use stainless.

I could give that a try if I can't find the darn socks.. but I need a deep sound since its a drag pipe..

I would give ceramic packing a try.  It would definitely last longer then fiberglass packing does.

I've never heard of there being a difference in sound between fibreglass and stainless and I can't seem to find any "vs." results in a google or YouTube search. If there is a difference, it can't be by much. Fibreglass is mainly used because it's cheap and it needs constant replacement - good for the people selling you exhausts.

One thing you can try with a total cost of three or four bucks is to use stainless steel scrubber pads.  They come three to a pack at Walmart for maybe 2-3 bucks per pack.

-- Cheap
-- Deadens noise about 80% as well as GOOD fiberglass
-- Lasts 10 times as long as fiberglass, which isn't saying much if you are starting off with EMGO fiberglass packing
-- Sometimes it corrodes in a few months,.. sometimes it lasts for thousands of miles.  I guess they don't control the alloys very precisely for scrubbers.

See this thread for how I packed the EMGO muffler RYCA supplied us.  It is in reply #247.

I found his after sales service to be excellent- to the point where he asked a Savage club in Finland what jetting they were using with the mods I had done, and replied to my question within 24 hrs.

Serow, do you use any kind of screen wrap around the fiberglass? This Raask had a screen around it and I'm wondering if I should reuse it with the steel wool or where I can go to buy a new one, or if it even needs it....

Title: Re: Has anyone repacked their Raask?
Post by Serowbot on 09/29/12 at 14:40:32

I would reuse it...
The S-trapp doesn't,.. but it blows out really fast... They say to just use masking tape to hold the packing in place during install..  That doesn't work...

Gonna' do stainless scrubbies next time,... and hold in place with wire...

If the screen is in good shape,.. use it... if not, wrap it with safety wire...
;)...

This wrap screen is like a fine mesh almost like a window screen.. I wish Raask would answer me and tell me what it's from[smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]
