That looks awesome! I am sure you mentioned it earlier, but how did you do your tank?

Title: Re: The chicken is here...
Post by Serowbot on 09/27/12 at 14:13:59

It's chromed,.. the tank stripes and knee pads are made from rubber running floor mat from Ace hardware ($3.99 a foot, that's all you need),...
Copper pinstripe is from a hobby shop... (real copper)... $6.00...
... and the tank is lifted an inch in the rear,.. much the same way you do the seat lift...
;)...

Post by stinger on 09/28/12 at 02:22:01

The chicken is the reason Hesketh failed; imagine jaguar witha tabby on the hood..it just wouldn't fly.  The Bike looks great, and chroming the front fender would look fine.

Gee, I always thought that Hesketh failed because of the price tag.  I am afraid that the same thing is happening with the new Norton.  Kind of a shame, because it is an awesome bike.

@ gerald.hughes

i agree with you that price is going to kill norton, but i think the reasoning behind what theyre doing is solid. i dont know about where the parts are being manufactured, but iirc each bike is at least assembled by hand, in Britain, they're making small numbers, they've got a great bike, just bad economic timing. if you've heard at all about the brough superior being brought back, you'll understand. its all the original bits and pieces, made to your specifications, for, iirc, a quarter of a million dollars. its hard to put a price on becoming T.E. Lawrence, but they managed to do it. either way, just thought i'd chime in.

gerry, I think you are right.  As I remember, it had good press but some nagging qulaity control issue.  A lovely beast was the Hesketh.   The Norton engine wasn't it great claim to fame, but the frame as I remember.  The tilted engine is nice looking, for us singles the Panther was a great exaMPLE.

So Serowbot....Tell me.  When you ride your bike in the daytime, when the sun is out......Do you have to put sunscreen under your chin so the reflection off your tank doesn't sunburn your soft fleshy face bottom?

For those not familiar with the Brit made Panther, here is an example.  600cc slant single.

Why do I dislike that bike but like this one?

Seriously. I'm not seeing very many differences. I'd like to find another Savage to cut and weld and make look like an old Military Royal Enfield.

Paraquat, you do know that you can just go to the local RE shop and buy that military model...

Wouldn't be as much fun as building one though. I've wanted to pick up a second Savage to knock-off the 500cc WW2 BSA single for years. Already have too many toys I don't have time to enjoy so... ain't happening.

That's my issue also. Too many toys.
I'd like to build one rather than buy one.

Man I love Royal Enfields!!  :D

After living in India I came home set on buying one, then I reolized I'd rather be riding then wrenching since I don't have tons of free time and got the LS650 instead.  It doesn't have the personality the RE has, but it's a great thumper that with a little TLC yields miles of smiles.

And although most of the guys on the USA-RE forums are pretty cool, it's alot more fun BS'ing here with you guys  ;D
