Title: Which brake pads brake the hardest?
Post by Gyrobob on 09/24/12 at 08:46:07

For the stock front brake, which pads produce the most stopping power with the least amount of pull on the brake lever?

IOW,  which pads have the greatest coefficient of friction?

I don't care about longevity, or noise, or fade resistance, or (within reason) cost.

All I seek is a source for pads that will stop the bike the fastest for a given amount of pull on the lever.

A (old racing) friend of mine swears by the Frodo brand, I think they make a HH version for the savage.

I know you are seeking safety first, but my front breaks squeal like mad hyena in heat. It drives me crazy and is quite embarrassing when everyone stops and turn their heads at me (especially in my neighborhood).

There are lots of techniques to use that make disc brake squeal go away.  I've never had a disc brake I could not quiet down.  So,.. I'm not worried about noise.  I just want the pads that give me the most stopping power with the least amount of lever effort.

Yes, safety is an issue, but I mainly just want less lever effort for day-to-day puttin' around.

If you can find them the old yellow package Emgo pads are asbestos. If you can't find them EBC pads are decent. Hit KimChris1 up, see when she is making a Bent run. They should still have the good ones in the attic. Have her tell Tony that Jeff said check the overstock.

I got no response from the Kimchris1 message I sent.

So,.. I am still trying to get a feel for which pads produce the greatest stopping power for the least amount of pull on the lever.

How about these?

I got an email from a distributor who says anything with an "HH" rating is what I want.

So, I started wandering around the internet.  HH means higher coefficient of friction, but harder on rotors, and tends to squeal.

This site has lots of info:

The stock pads I had were biting pretty hard, but they were gone in NO time. They were nice to the rotor as well. But they are expensive.
