Title: A Chirp I Don't Like Post by Blinky on 09/19/12 at 16:40:28 I parked the bike in the garage Friday night after my 1900 mile road trip and did not even look at it until today. I topped up the oil (a few ounces), checked the tire pressure, and then headed down to the gas station for a fill-up. Unlike the road trip, I did not put in my ear plugs. There is a audible chirp when on the throttle that varies with engine rpm, not the actual speed of the bike. I do not hear it when off the throttle but it may be there. At idle with my ear next to the head all I hear is what I consider to be the normal mechancial background sounds. Time to check the cam chain? Anything else to look for? The bile is an 07 with 8100 miles. I looked up the clutch cover gasket and see two part numbers. Off the top of your head does anyone know which one I need for the 07? Thanks in advance and good hunting |
Title: Re: A Chirp I Don't Like Post by arteacher on 09/19/12 at 17:30:37 It is probably belt chirp. There are threads on here on how to align the rear wheel, but I can't find them. Does it do it in neutral, or stopped? Found it: http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1260147857/0 |

Title: Re: A Chirp I Don't Like Post by Routy on 09/20/12 at 06:06:41 Belt ! I used to call it a squeak, but now its a chirp; And its kinda like the backfire,......about the time you think you fixed it, it will be back, If you want to tell for sure,.....spray the belt w/ sillycone or WD. If it quits chirping for 2.5 miles, you found it ! |
Title: Re: A Chirp I Don't Like Post by Blinky on 09/22/12 at 15:12:51 Not the belt guys. It is a chirp from the muffler. I guess something has come adrift in there. I was having trouble thinking it was the belt since it increased in frequency with engine rpms and not the actual speed of the bike. I put a mechanics stethoscope on the top of the head and down low and heard what I consider normal cam chain sounds so i don't think I will bust it open for a look quite yet (8100 miles). Thanks for the input and good hunting |

Title: Re: A Chirp I Don't Like Post by Santa Cruise on 10/16/12 at 17:20:43 Did you figure out what the chirp is? I ask because I experienced the same thing after a 700 mile trip. In my case it is definitely from the exhaust when the engine is started cold. It seems to go away after it warms up. Just curious. |
Title: Re: A Chirp I Don't Like Post by Blinky on 10/16/12 at 18:39:22 S.C. No, I never figured out what it is. It is still there at idle when I start it up but goes away when I put in my ear plugs. My best guess is an internal component in the muffler is loose. I will just let it be for now. Good hunting |
