Title: Rear brake light cable disconnected from the pedal Post by inkme1620 on 09/16/12 at 11:42:50 I can’t reattach the cable and it all appears to be there but not sure since I don’t know what it looked like originally. I have searched part diagrams and I still can’t figure out how it attaches. Looks to be a trap for the cable attached to the brake cable linkage by a pin. I can place the break light wire into the hole but can’t figure out what holds it there and when I press the pedal it just comes out. Please help pictures would be nice. |
Title: Re: Rear brake light cable disconnected from the p Post by verslagen1 on 09/16/12 at 11:47:10 there's a little plastic ring that holds it in place. if it's not there then it's gone (here's your sign) you can wrap a bit of wire in it's place, small paper clip works. |

Title: Re: Rear brake light cable disconnected from the p Post by inkme1620 on 09/16/12 at 12:00:35 Is the plastic ring on the cable behind the wire cap or is it a separate piece? Thanks for the pic and the help... |
Title: Re: Rear brake light cable disconnected from the p Post by rfw2003 on 09/16/12 at 12:08:34 it's behind the metal ball on the wire end. the plastic piece looks kinda like a flanged bushing. Once it breaks the ball end of the wire slips out of the piece of metal that attaches it to the brake pedal. I didn't have much luck with using a piece of wire to fix mine and ended up ordering a new brake light cable to fix mine. R.F. |

Title: Re: Rear brake light cable disconnected from the p Post by Paraquat on 09/16/12 at 15:31:37 I went to Lowes and bought some small washers. I think they were #4 lock washers. (Lock washers already have a split in them). Bent it open, slipped it over, clamped it down. --Steve |

Great idea. I never would have thought of that. If mine ever breaks again I'll keep that in mind. Thanks Paraquat |

After I realized I've never had a rear brake light when using the foot pedal I researched it here. I found a picture here posted by V was able to see the difference between a good one and what I had. http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1318295545/1#1 This shows a better picture of what's going on. EDIT: http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv231/Paraquat_bucket/0722121410.jpg Crappy picture showing the shoulder of the bushing is missing. http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv231/Paraquat_bucket/0725122031.jpg Cardboard backdrop and bushing pulled down. http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv231/Paraquat_bucket/0725122038.jpg Crappy cell phone picture with the washer in place. --Steve |
