Title: Buckhorns to Superbike, Drag or M Bars Post by jase_mcgee on 09/13/12 at 11:35:13 Does anyone have experience going from the stock buckhorns to superbike bars? I am wondering if I'll need new cables or not. I am looking at Licks, but not sure how wide they are. Sent an email today. I am also looking at the Norman Hyde M Bars, but they're really flat, with 3/4" rise, so am expecting to need risers. Any feedback on having done the conversion would be good. I just got the bike, my first, and like most things about the bike. The bars just aren't comfortable for me at all. |
Title: Re: Buckhorns to Superbike, Drag or M Bars Post by Serowbot on 09/13/12 at 11:42:33 I've gone from stock pullbacks,.. to Harley standard, to 32" drag with 4" risers, using the stock cable lengths... No problem... ;)... |

Title: Re: Buckhorns to Superbike, Drag or M Bars Post by gdrseeker on 09/13/12 at 19:02:06 I recently changed mine out and put on these. http://www.jpcycles.com/product/404-949 I also used the cheaprRiser modification using 3/4 inch sockets listed here. http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1306027682. I only used standard sockets not the deep ones. |

How is the view in the mirrors? |
Title: Re: Buckhorns to Superbike, Drag or M Bars Post by gdrseeker on 09/14/12 at 08:23:02 I have a bit of a hard time seeing directly behind me. I can see well enough to see the lanes to my left and right with no real blind spots. But I like to see if the person behind me is tailgaiting or comming up too fast at a stoplight, and they don't offer a great view for that. My plan is to change to some bar end mirrors and new handel grips soon. |
Title: Re: Buckhorns to Superbike, Drag or M Bars Post by jase_mcgee on 09/14/12 at 08:57:25 I am probably going with something in between the two drag bars posted. I want around 31-32" width, but I also want some rise. It's good to see that the stock cables fit just fine. gdrseeker, any issues with using the sockets or it's a perfect fit? I read that thread too. It's cool if it works that easy. How has the change in bars effected handling? |
Title: Re: Buckhorns to Superbike, Drag or M Bars Post by verslagen1 on 09/14/12 at 09:02:50 Z bars are a decent option too. the pull back of drags, no risers needed, just pick the rise you want. I find the 30" bars gets you a view of what's behind you. |
Title: Re: Buckhorns to Superbike, Drag or M Bars Post by srinath on 09/14/12 at 09:52:05 I made a few 5" or so risers if I recall. You put those on and the drag bars and its perfect ... Like the s40 almost, except these risers are a lot stronger and use the existing bar posts of the pre s40 savage. I could find the set I have stashed away for me, cos the savage I am building has a different FE ... If you want it $40 shipped oughta do it - powdercoated black and I think it has evertthing you need ... even the bolts etc ... Cool. Srinath. |
