Title: 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 300...
Post by Serowbot on 09/09/12 at 09:44:25

Trend to smaller, more practical bikes?.. :-?...
They're keeping the 250 as well...
Wish they'd have gone for a 350 or 400cc... right between the 600's and the 250's...
That's a nice size... ;)...

Didnt know they were keeping the 250. I agree, if it were a 350 I might consider trading my 250, but its paid for and will cruise all day on the interstate at 70mph, not to mention the terrific mileage. The smaller fuel efficient bikes are the future of motorcycling.

Now with fuel injection! :)  Makes me wonder if they're not trying to get back some of the sales that the CB250R took away?

They are trying to compete with Honda, if looks were the only category Kawasaki would win hands down. I just cant get into the appearence of the 250 Honda, they need to immediately fire whoever designed the exhaust! The achilles heel of my 250 Ninja is the carbs. What doesnt make a lot of sense is the European version of the Ninja 250 is fuel injectected.

When Kawasaki upgraded their 250 Ninja back in 2008, the European version got fuel injection. Kawasaki said that added $500 to the price, above the carbureted version. That is probably why they didn't fuel inject ours, not wanting the sticker shock.

Americans are smarter than they give us give us credit for, some of us would have gladly paid extra. If you keep the bike long enough the extra mileage gained by the injection system would defer a lot of the cost. Just hang out on a Ninja 250 Forum and all you hear is fuel injection.

Anyone know if the new 300 Ninja will have some sort of roller cam followers?

Thought I was an OK mechanic but what is a roller cam follower?

a Roller cam follower is kinda like a roller rocker except the followers run directly off of the cam instead of being push rod activated.  Our savages have flat tappet followers.  The roller ones will have a needle bearing wheel on them instead of just a flat paddle of metal that rubs against the cam

One of the funnest bikes I ever had was a 250 Ninja. Great commuter scooter! I thinks it's great they are keeping it and adding a 300 to the lineup. Looks a little less "standard" ergonomics then the 250, though.
I wish they'd bring back the 500.

Nice looking machine, the Wifey has been thinking about a bike and loves Ninjas.   The 300 would be perfect for her to tool around locally, and would be nice for me to jump on once on a while too    :D

OK I'm with you, I doubt it. From what I understand the 300 is a stroked 250. The 250 is a good engine, theres several of em out there with over 100,000 miles on em. Power wise its almost identical to the Savage, you just have to wind it up. Has a little more top end than the Savage and it handles like its on rails. Thats my favorite thing.

This article says it's a whole new engine, but nothing on it's inner workings.
