Title: Trip meter
Post by BOBD on 08/30/12 at 10:30:36

Has anyone else ever used a Shwinn bicycle computer for their trip meter? I use it for now, but not sure of the accuracy. It works ok until you get over 70-100MPH. I plan to buy this next year: http://www.thegpsstore.com/Garmin-Zumo-220-Motorcycle-Navigation-System-P2326.aspx?srccode=cii_9927853&cpncode=30-5516157    Mainly because I like to just ride out and go down any road into the country side and get lost. So I'd like to be sure I can find my way back home or find a gas station nearby if I run low. This one has a virtual gas gauge on it also and a trip meter. I can also use it for a speedometer. Probably more accurate than the stock one. Does cost a lot though. Got to save up for it.

BOBD

This has been discussed at length in this thread.

Look at the Index in the Technical Section, and you will find a lot of things that may cover your questions.  If you can't find it there.....then start a new post.

You can also buy this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-Dual-Odometer-Speedometer-Meter-W-Night-light-F-Motorcycle-Motorbike-/110888225527?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19d1740af7&vxp=mtr  and one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorcycle-Inductance-Analog-Tach-Tachometer-13000RPM-P10-/170899969942?hash=item27ca6e9796&item=170899969942&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr  May not be the right ones, but you get the idea.  Anyway, think I will stick to the bicycle computer for now.  Not interested in all the work required to install those.  Thanks

whatever you do... don't get a wireless one, won't work, too much interference.

Hey BOBD  that Speedo should work fine as it's 60Kpm/1400RPM ratio which works out close to the 60Mph/2240RPM that our stock bike uses.  I'm not sure about the Tach though, I'd write the seller and find out some stats on it to see what it's meant for, as the LS650 is a single but does have a spark pulse for both compression and exhaust.  I've seen posts where some guys have had problems with using just any old Tach  ;)
