Title: Solo Seat mounts Post by Epeck on 08/27/12 at 09:37:26 What kind of mounts have you guys used for your solo seats. Here is the seat I have for mine. http://www.monstercraftsman.com/solid-walnut-solo-seat/ I want the seat to sit very close to the frame so i am thinking about using 2" springs. Also I am wondering how I should mount the front of the seat as well. |
Title: Re: Solo Seat mounts Post by Demin on 08/27/12 at 11:18:00 Go to any aftermarket Harley shop and get a solo mount kit. Some even come with springs. The ones I sell and use are from a company called V-TWIN.One part bolts(clamps)onto a round frame.I take that, where the two bolts holes are for thew U bolt and bolt it right to the stock gastank mount.Fits almost perfect. Then bolt your seat to the hinge/bracket.I made a rear spring bracket out of 1/8" thick 2" wide steel and it bolts in the fender bolt holes. http://p1.bikepics.com/2008/05/23/bikepics-1298492-800.jpg Same set up,no springs. http://p1.bikepics.com/2011/08/16/bikepics-2257982-800.jpg |
Title: Re: Solo Seat mounts Post by Cavi Mike on 08/27/12 at 16:48:41 I'm using those "hair-pin" style springs so they will fit next to the frame instead of resting on top. I made a couple little brackets that I'll be welding to the sides of the frame. I haven't decided what I'm doing with the front mount yet but most likely just a tube welded to the rear tank mount and a standard solo mount on the saddle. Of course all of this requires some cutting/welding so if you're looking for something bolt-on, none of this is gonna be for you. |
Title: Re: Solo Seat mounts Post by Epeck on 08/28/12 at 06:10:42 I was thinking something like this http://compare.ebay.com/like/370636456240?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&_lwgsi=y&cbt=y Or this http://www.ebay.com/itm/120968720397?hlp=false I do not have the ability to weld. |
Title: Re: Solo Seat mounts Post by Demin on 08/28/12 at 14:01:05 That first pic is exactly what I'm talking about. And get the part that bolts onto the seat.Get a flat piece of steel and drill holes to match the studs on the seat.Bolt plate to bike, springs to plate.Seat studs will just sit inside the springs. All bolt on. |
Title: Re: Solo Seat mounts Post by SimonTuffGuy on 08/30/12 at 17:06:41 Here was my old solo seat I was using... I got a universal mount for it that was meant to be bolted around frame tube... I flattened it out and then drilled holes so that it would bolt to where the stock seat bracket (off the gas tank) went: http://pimptiva.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4979&g2_serialNumber=1 After I cut the stock rear support brackets, it ended up sitting like this. I did not run springs on it, since I've got the struts on the swingarm still. http://pimptiva.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4835&g2_serialNumber=2 Front bracket originally looked like this (the top piece): http://demonscy.ipower.com/i_pics/seat_mounting_bracket_1_1.jpg Mine was 100% bolt on with no welding required. |
Title: Re: Solo Seat mounts Post by Cavi Mike on 08/30/12 at 23:15:14 That just looks so right mounted directly to the frame. The tall mounts plus springs ruin the look. |
Title: Re: Solo Seat mounts Post by mojohand40 on 08/31/12 at 05:33:03 Demin, I like those fenders and struts you got. That purple bike is a work of art. What/where did you get/fab the fender and struts? |
Title: Re: Solo Seat mounts Post by Epeck on 08/31/12 at 06:19:49 TuffGuy.Thats What I was looking for !! thanks I will probably be asking you some more questions when I go to mount !! |
Title: Re: Solo Seat mounts Post by SimonTuffGuy on 09/01/12 at 17:34:23 Sure thing. Shoot me a PM if needed. There may be additional pictures in my gallery (pimptiva.com) that outline some of the other stuff. I ended up pulling (and selling) the seat and mount a few weeks ago when I went with the BCB kit instead. http://www.pimptiva.com/gallery3/var/resizes/The-Bike/Blue-Collar-Bobber-Kit/IMG_20120826_154912.jpg?m=1346013551 Although with their kit, the seat doesn't sit nearly as low as it did in my original setup. I must say though, it's a LOT more comfortable with the BCB seat and springs. |

Title: Re: Solo Seat mounts Post by batman on 08/28/16 at 13:32:15 CaviMike be aware that the "hair pin " springs have been known to fail ,I'd think about using coils myself. |
