Title: Front Oil port
Post by rfw2003 on 08/25/12 at 13:32:03

Mainly speaking to the Veterans of the Forum and Savage here.  Does anyone know what the thread size and pitch is of the oil access port is on the front of the engine?  I'm getting ready to finally mount my Trail Tech Vapor on the Savage and was wanting to do the Temp as the oil temp.  I just need to know the size and pitch of that port on the front of the motor so I can get the correct adapter for the sending unit.

Thanks in advance.

Rfw...which oil port are you speaking of, this is a nice idea you have. Are you speaking of the bolt kinda close to the brake pedal?

Rear brake pedal side, on the front of the motor with the hex key head on it.  It's a plug that is in the oil flow of the engine.

Good luck to ya.  If you don't wanna use the Trail Tech computer that adapter they sell will fit any oil/water temp sending unit that is 1/8" NPT

So far they are the only ones that I have found that sell that adapter.

Got it in yesterday and mounted up.  So far it works great.  Temps are good on the oil.  Today it's hitting right at 100° and during ride oil temps were about 225° and peaks up to 248° when sitting at a red light for about 5 mins.

$9.95? REally? Just Looka that thing! Hex head with a flange, male threads & female threads,, anodized,, for TEN lousy BUX? Boy oh boy,, thats amazing,,CNC boys & girls,,
Once upon a time, that thing woulda cost a 4 TUNE..

At least, thats the way I see it,, maybe someone has a different take on it.
What would it have taken to make that in 1965?

Yeah mass production CNC has sure made some things come down in price.  As for your description you hit it right on the head. Kinda like a reducer bushing in the plumbing department just with metric threads on the big end instead of NPT threads.

Had the highest temps so far today on the oil.  Was out on the SuperSlab doing 75mph for about 30mins. Outside temp was 100°, oil reached 274° in about 15 miles and stayed at that temp till I got off the Super Slab and slowed down.

So i bet my run the other day when it was 112 and did the same distance at the speed didn't get the T6 nowhere near its limits.
That was my thread about the "Oil Abuse".

5 Minutes at a red light?  Not only are things BIG in Texas.......they seem to be LONG too.

Don't forget that was the start of the Holiday weekend.  I live near a lake so traffic gets alot worse when holidays come around.
