Title: Flyscreens
Post by Barrett on 08/21/12 at 11:21:40

I've never ridden with a flyscreen before... I ride without a helmet... I think they look pretty cool and might be nice on long rides. You guys have any opinions on flyscreens?

They are too small, the only way to get them to work effectively (sorta) is to jack them  way up, 4" up in the air and angle them towards flat angle so the deflection zone can get up to cover your helmet.   This looks sorta stupid.

Even so, you can still feel the wind on both shoulders -- the fly shields are just too too small.

It's a matter of personal taste.  Mine deflects about two third of the bugs off my faceshield, and keeps the wind from beating me to death on long stints at 65mph.  I'm 5'11", so a shorter person would probably benefit more.  If you're expecting the benefits of a full windshield, you will be disappointed. ;)

I love mine, originally got for the summer months, but I leave it on all year long now.

Depends on what you want though.  If you're comfortable w/out a shield up to a certain speed, a flyshield will increase your comfort speed.  I'm comfortable w/o up to 50mph and with up to 80.

But I ride w/a FF helmet.  so bugs and rocks aren't an issue and I get plenty of both.

Ok good to know. I'm 5'5" so maybe it will cover more of my face. Even small bugs make me holler when they hit my face above 50mph. My girl in the back with a full face helm gets a kick out of it every time though  :D

Have a look at Bullet 15 or 18 from Slipstreamer.

I have the 18, and it lets enough air around it to keep me cool in the summer and deflects enough over it so I don't get bugs on my teeth, because I am always smiling when I ride. :)

if I understand you correctly, it is on the windshield...
so, that's the height of the windscreen should normally be up to the chin or nose of an ordinary landing on the bike.
if the windshield is below this level, then it will be uncomfortable to go on the bike.
and if the windshield is above the nose, it uncomfortable to watch the road.
it's all tested by me not once.
something like this...
