For those who don't know him, Major General Peter Cosgrove is an 'Australian treasure!'

General Cosgrove was interviewed on the radio recently.
Read his reply to the lady who interviewed him concerning guns and children.

Regardless of how you feel about gun laws you gotta love this!
This is one of the best comeback lines of all time.

It is a portion of an ABC radio interview between a female broadcaster and General Cosgrove who was about to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visiting his military Headquarters.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
So, General Cosgrove, what things are you going to teach these young boys when they visit your base?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
We're going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery and shooting.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't it?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the rifle range.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
I don't see how.. We will be teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
But you're equipping them to become violent killers.

GENERAL COSGROVE:
Well, Ma'am, you're equipped to be a prostitute, but you're not one, are you?

The radiocast went silent for 46 seconds and when it returned, the interview was over.

I went looking for the interview & got a Snopes link,, It SAYS its false,,but,, Im sure that IF its false today, one day, someone will get that opportunity & capitalize on it.. Its a Wonderful example of a cunning linguist biting back hard..

Like they say, guns don't kill people any more than pens misspell words, or spoons make us fat. Heck, why not outlaw kitchen knives, and softball bats while they're at it? :-?

What does snopes have to do with liberals? Do you think the mythbusters are just a bunch of darn liberals too? I mean hey, anyone who debunks stuff, they must just be liberals right? That's one of the most ignorant things I've ever heard.

If it's false, it's false. Most of this crap is. It's just an newspaper or email joke that got passed around by so many people and for so long that people started to believe it was real. It has nothing to do with liberal or conservative, it just has to do with true vs false. This was nothing more than a good joke with a great punch-line, just like the Canadian lighthouse vs. the American warship radio conversation, a joke that someone thought was real and, in that case, it was a recycled recycled joke. In a couple decades, this will be too.

Trying to use snopes for debunking issues may work for issues that are entirely apolitical, but otherwise it's like watching Brian Williams or Chris Matthews and hoping for unbiased reporting.

This one has made the rounds for quite a few years now. Like most good stories, the facts don't seem to matter. It's more parable than report.

Naaah,, done fergot what I was gonna say,, OHH, wait,, I remember now,, I was talking to an older lady today ( she is 64) & told her about the thread, she said she remembered that interview,, that it really happened! She said she thot her brother or dad( dang,, memory fails) would probably remember who it was & she'd ask,,I hope she remembers,,
