Title: TDC question Post by simm22 on 07/26/12 at 10:04:33 I know the steps to find TDC but had a question about the rocker arms. If the intake and exhaust valves are closed the rocker arms will be up or down? I think "up" but just checking to make sure I am right. Thanks

Title: Re: TDC question Post by Dave on 07/26/12 at 10:49:36 There are two times when the piston comes up - but only one of those is TDC.  When the piston comes up and both valves are closed and you can feel/measure the valve clearance.....that is TDC and it does occur when both lobes of the cam are facing down.  The other time the piston comes up is when the exhaust valve is just closing and the intake is just opening (valve overlap), and neither rocker should have any clearance as the cam loves are facing up and pushing on the rockers.

Title: Re: TDC question Post by Charon on 07/26/12 at 13:21:39 Every time the piston is at the top of the stroke is, by definition, Top Dead Center. Only one of those is the correct TDC for valve adjustment. At that TDC the valve end of the rocker arms will be up, as will the valve stems.
