Thats true,, it can be quick,, or not so quick, Have you got a place set up to lay the tank? Have ytou got a place to lay out the parts as they come off? All these little things add time to a job, better to be slow & move carefully, plan ahead,,getting done quick isnt as important as not needing to do it again,or not having a dent somewhere after its done that wasnt there before, wade off in it,, take your time,

Got the sealer on hand?

I think you will want to install the plug with the RTV sealant and let it set up for an hour with something holding the plug firmly in place. I used an Allen wrench wedged between the upper frame member and the center of the plug. If you don't, the plug has a tendency not to seal properly and you'll be doing it again too soon.

Don't forget to preinstall the bolt on top before trying to put the cover on or it wont clear the frame. There is a bolt that is upside down that must be in first also (front left).

Use a torque wrench, or be very careful. I learned the hard way

it was the only way to get the bolt away from the frame enough to get out of the head. How on earth did someone else do this plug in under an hour??? thanks for the reply

For starters,, ya dont pull the head..

For future reference, if youre gonna do something & someone else has done it, & you can tell youre gonna be spending a LOT more time at it that they did,, then its time to ask more questions,,
This PLug that youre working on is pulled out in order to torque head bolts, Its not a big deal, really, if youre 9 hours in & youre not done, STOP,, & ask questions before you get yourself so screwed up you have to haul it to a shop,

the only way to get to this plug is to pull the head, it is located inside just to the right, it's not the plug on the side of the motor. this one covers the bolt that holds the 2 pieces together. the bolt is to long and hits the frame and won't come out unless you tilt the engine forward enough to clear the frame. As far as I know that is the only way to get the bolt out.
thanks for the come back

Rhinestone, Look in the tech section. If we are talking about the rubber plug under the head cap, I did mine with the engine in the frame. Two bolts MUST be installed in the head cap BEFORE putting it back. They are loose but not out as you lift off the head cap. There is a print out of the head cap bolt location which is very handy. Study up before you ruin your engine. We are talking about the head cap plug--right? hth
heroicseven has put up the link for the job in this thread.
