Title: K&N replacent filter question
Post by Greg on 07/22/12 at 08:53:21

The SU-6595 is the model number. Do they come pre-oiled? The only info I could find on their site was how to clean and re-oil. The installation instructions don't mention it so I am assuming it is.

Installation: http://www.knfilters.com/instructions/SU-6595_inst.pdf

Yup, they are pre-oiled. They give you a bit of special grease to go around the outside edge to make a good seal as well. I re-oil mine every year, and use the squeeze bottle kit, not the spray kit, as the spray kit can put too much oil on.

Good Point!  One obviously not followed by the previous owner of the S40 I purchased about 2 months ago. When checking the air filter to see what kind of shape it was in I was pleased to find a K&N already in place. Not so cool was the huge red puddle of oil laying in the bottom of the air box when I removed the filter for inspection.  Blew some high pressure air back through the panel and a large mist of oil sprayed out of the filter.  Just a touch too much I'd say  :o

I have a great big K&N cone filter on the K&N intake on my car. I sprayed oil on it and fortunately left it alone for a day. When I came back to the car there was a puddle of oil underneath (freaked me right out until I figured out I had over oiled the filter) I cleaned it all up and wicked the extra oil off the filter with paper towels and was good to go.
