Post by Epeck on 07/16/12 at 05:56:27

Where do I buy the nut (top side) that holds the rear shocks on. Also what size is it?

Take one of the others off and go to and automotive store or ace hardware.

I love ACE hardware.  The one in my town has every fitting imaginable. Ive been down there twice this week making up rearset linkages.

If you have one around I would give it a shot.

If your not in a hurry you can just order it for $1.94 like so...

Theres gotta be a Nut & Bolt supply house in the warehouse section of town, if not in your town, then theres one close by.. Itll cost less there, & theyll either have what you want, or get it for ya,

I hope you're looking at metric nuts.   If your in the SAE  section you will not find it.

If you plan to do work on the bike then you may want to buy a metric thread gauge.

Theyll have that gauge at the local nut & bolt shop.

Gotta staop in at the one I just found, tho, its closer,, a lot closer,

Well I'm not sure exactly what Jog has right near him with him being only a county away from me,  but here in TX we have Fastenal, Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, but my favorite are the local Mom and Pop type stores specifically Sulphur Springs Hardware, they actually have a better selection in stock then Fastenal does.

M14, don't know the thread pitch. Any real hardware store will have them.

Quick way to gauge a metric stud or bolt? What open end wrench fits the shank snugly... gets you in the ball park, then you just need to know the thread count.

Fastenal, Bolt Depot... Sears Hardware and Ace Hardware typically have very good hardware selections. Some NAPA or Pep Boys have decent hardware sections.

Home Depot and Lowes are for home.  Their hardware selections are weak and generally not good for automotive or motorcycle applications.  I only check them in an emergency or if it's generic.

There are 3 places here that are warehouses, not a little shop with bins. Walk in to the counter, talk to sales. they walk in the back & its full of shelves with boxes of all kinds of nuts & bolts, galvanized to stainless. I got a 3 foot piece of 3/8ths Stainless all thread for a whopping Three Dollars,,
