Title: MY BIG BLUE THUMPER
Post by sparkie on 07/14/12 at 01:42:45

Hi Everyone
My name is Ian from the UK
I have been building my bike now for about 2 years it has gone through some changes and i think loos really great now.
I will be putting some pictures on here as we go.
Please let me know what you think!
Well like i said i bought the bike 2 years ago the first thing i did was to see if she starts which eventually she did so that was OK.Then came the strip down because she was sat on a farm for 3 years before i had her so everything had gone all the chrome, all the ali.rubber everything was crap so all had to be replaced.
So with the bike all stripped i had the frame etc shot blasted to see what was going on underneath. Frame and swing arm was ok but both the fenders were shot couldn't be used.So then the remodeling started all the untidy welds were then dressed and then some filler to make then smooth. The swing arm was also reshaped with the open holes on the inside being welded up to make them smooth, rear footpegs removed and the brackets that hold the rear belt cover on.Took the two horns that hold the rear fender off and made some alterations there as you will see in the pictures.Well lets start with some pictures and i will carry on with the story.

easy if you host your own pic's not so  easy if you expect to upload them.

just create a new post for every pic.

Hello Ian, nice set of wheels !

Whereabouts in England ? I lived in Camberley (GU15) for a year, then another two years in a tiny haṃlet called Upavon (SN9).

Looking at your bike, I have the feeling the front fork was disassembled, ther reassebled the wrong way 'round, as the disc caliper should rest on the rear of the fork shroud, not on the front.

Tara for now !  8-)

HI
THEN I HAD TO DO THE TANK
THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD HAD A CRASH ON  IT AND DENTED THE TANK WHICH HE HAD JUST STUCK A LUMP OF FILLER IN IT
SO WHEN IT WENT TO THE SAND BLASTERS IT CAME BACK ALL BATTERED WITH A BIG DENT IN IT
SO WE SPLIT THE TANK IN HALF TO GET ALL THE  DENTS OUT WE-WELDED IT BACK TOGETHER WHICH QUITE GOOD BECAUSE YOU LOOSE THE SEAM EDGE ON THE BOTTOM AND FILLED IN THE HOLE WHERE THE SPEEDO GOES SO IT MAKES IT NICE AND SMOOTH

Sparkie, its looking great so far. Love that blue!!

You may want to use a third party image hosting site to hold images, that way you can imbed multiple images into one post. Only making this suggestions because I want to see more, more, MORE!

Cool build. Very clean. You do very nice work.

The pics seem somewhat random in the build time line. Id like to see them displayed as a progression at some point. Maybe you can open an imageshack account or something. I know I would love to see it.

Thats a easy clean place to put the speedo, except I cant stand looking at the tank for the speed so I think it will be less convenient to look at my crotch for the speed. He he.  But customs are not always super practical. Looks good though, maybe too good for a Savage.

hi
when i wnet to a show acouple of weeks ago on the way home the original front light snapped off right at the bottom of the bracket so i had to ride home with the headlight in my hand.
The owner before me had just glued it together so was very weak.
So i had to have a new one but had to make a mounting bracket up for it but didnt just want to bend a bit of stainless plate up so i came up with this what do you think?
cheers sparkie

Cool light mount. I dont know how much that stuff costs over there but all those pieces would cost around 60 or 70 bucks at the hardware store here.

not that long really just wanted to design something that looked like some thought had gone into it and i think it has come out well.all it is is a block of polished ali and then some male /female rose joints.
i also made up two exhausts for her one straight and one that dips underneath both baffle free and out of 2inch tube with a one off end that fits to the engine
They both sound great and not that loud
cheers sparkie

Love the rose joints solution. That is my kind of doing stuff. That looks totally PHAT! I like your build anyways. There is something about it with the way you do it. The color and the blue look SICK together, even though I prefer black. But in this case the blue makes the polished and chromed parts POP.
The polishing part is a lot of work and looks better than chrome.
My hat is off for you. Very nice!
