Title: Re: 1956 Douglas Dragonfly Post by Serowbot on 07/01/12 at 14:26:10 Looks very much like a rebadged BMW... with a snazz headlight... Neat!... :)... |
Title: Re: 1956 Douglas Dragonfly Post by 360k+ on 07/01/12 at 15:22:07 Intriguing front end geometry, and a well thought out machine for its time. |
Title: Re: 1956 Douglas Dragonfly Post by Haggis on 07/01/12 at 16:33:53 That is class I have seen one or two of these at classic bikes shows here in the UK, love them to bits. even just the name Dragaonfly 8-) |
Title: Re: 1956 Douglas Dragonfly Post by Serowbot on 07/01/12 at 17:05:54 That's an Earles front end,... my buddy just picked up an old BMW 69S with the same thing... I can't wait to try it... won't crash, I promise... :-?... |
Title: Re: 1956 Douglas Dragonfly Post by justin_o_guy2 on 07/01/12 at 21:32:42 I hear those front ends eat the bushings or bearings at the knee in the front end. |

The originals had brass bushings, and they did wear and get loose. I have always thought that an Earles fork with sealed tapered roller bearings would be the bees knees. You could go over a curb with those forks and not even feel it. |

Title: Re: 1956 Douglas Dragonfly Post by Pine on 07/02/12 at 11:03:13 HA I looked it up in the wiki.. "too powerful for most riders" |
Title: Re: 1956 Douglas Dragonfly Post by ToesNose on 07/02/12 at 12:48:32 Sweet old girl, thanks for sharing Greg :) |
Title: Re: 1956 Douglas Dragonfly Post by WD on 07/02/12 at 19:14:17 Nice, I'd ride it. Especially since it DOESN'T have a god awful BMW style shaft drive... Look a LOT like the 1951 BMW I made the mistake of buying in college. |
Title: Re: 1956 Douglas Dragonfly Post by rfw2003 on 07/02/12 at 19:20:35 I would love to take that old girl for a ride. I bet that 2 link front suspension with a roller bearing mod would ride like butter. R.F. |
Title: Re: 1956 Douglas Dragonfly Post by Gyrobob on 07/05/12 at 20:06:55 Don't ride it in the south during anytime but winter (too many bugs in the air) or anywhere else in dusty conditions. |
