Title: Engine cuts out
Post by 1999savage on 06/30/12 at 12:08:22

Hello eveyone another problem.
besides fron the oil leak.
i was riding all week everything was good.
needed to put gas i put the highest grade gas.  And now when ever i stop the engine cuts out the bike shuts off. Is it a gas problem
or i also drilled 9 holes in the muffler to make it louder so confused
but cit was riding good after i drilled the holes just noticed it doesent pick up as fast probably bc i lost back end pressure.

For starters use 87 octane gas.

Might be bad gas... Premium tends to sit in the tanks a long time... Nobody buys it...
You can drain it, and put it in your car where it'll mix with 10 gallons or so... and put some regular in your bike... see if that helps...
Or whatever works for you... :-?...

i live in b.c. and the only thing that doesnt have ethenol is 94 so i just run that and have not had any problems. it interests me that you guys are saying just 87, why is that?

The low compression of the Savage's engine has no benefit for the use of higher octane fuel.  Plus at most stations the higher octane fuel goes un-used for long periods of time so it tends to be on the stale side.

& theres the point, I never see anyone buy that stuff,, but then, I should probably point out, I really dont spend that much time skulking about at the gas station,, I see the hot rod retro cars around town & I know they use Ethyl ( yep, Im that old), but I see mostly cars that run Regular..& Im pretty sure the High Test stuff is sitting & sucking water in out of the air.
Drain tha carb bowl, too,.

I had the same thing happen to me and it turned out there was a leak in my carb, compounded by the fact I didn't have a fuel filter installed and there was a bunch of crap in there.
