Title: how do i put these things on...

any advice on how to install saddlebag brackets.  I don't want to take the rear tire off and there doesn't seem to be a lot of room between the tire and the inside fender to get tools up there.

What every man needs is an EXCUSE TO BUY TOOLS!
Go get yourself a set of ratcheting wrenches. It is a bit finicky, but you can get at the bolts without removing the wheel. The ratcheting wrenches make it a lot easier.

take the shocks off and lift it up.

Oh sure Vers, tell him the easiest way to work on these things...  ;)

Really is the best way to do the job. Floor jack under the emissions canister fin (the useless bracket on non-Cali bikes). Just have most of the tension in the shocks relaxed before you pull them loose. They can take off a fingernail pretty quick if they come off under tension.

i was going to put a small bottle jack between tire and the fender and lift the fender... just kidding.. thanks for the advice though.  i've got a motorcycle jack and taking off the springs sounds like the easiest thing to do..
